The top IMHO would be folks who know and understand hydraulics...

Does a pump produce pressure, flow, or both?
A guy finds a magic lamp and gives it a rub. Out pops a genie who says, "Today is your lucky day! I'm going to grant you three wishes." The lucky guy says, "Oh, wow! I wish that I understood women," to which the genie replies, "Come on man, I'm not God. Ask for something else." The lucky guy scratches his head and said, "Well, in that case, I'd like to understand all about fluid dynamics."

"So what about women confuses you?"

I was teasing…. But I do still own a car with a carburetor. It’s an updraft - variable venturi. You tune by adjusting spring tension on the Venturi vanes. Modern cars, like the ‘Vette, are much easier…
TBT, there are only a small handful of people who still know how to rebuild a Q-Jet properly. Lars Grimsrud, Cliff Ruggles and Henry Olson. And good luck finding a good core... I have 3, I believe. I need to get the 4-Jet rebuilt so I can put the Oldsey back to stock. I stupidly had to put an Edelbrock manifold and Q-Jet on... Shoulda just left it bone stock. Maybe I'll get a 66 stock manifold as Olds went to the QuadraJunk in 66. I think some 65's (big cars) may have used it...

I recently learned there are now some (Chinese?) knock-offs. Never seen one, but then again I don't do too much of this stuff anymore.

I used to tune carbs decades ago either using carb sticks (Morgan I think) or gauges on motorcycles. There's nothing better than a 1000cc 4cyl engine that's in perfect tune throughout the rev band.
