I was reading about the ingredients of a few oils on line and I got to thinking that between two 5w30 oils let's say PYB and Super Teck synthetic there seems to be little difference in what they offer so let's take a look.

ST. PYB. (Both 5w30 the ST is synthetic the PYB is conventional)
CA. 2,367 2,408
Mag. 9 7
PH. 706 727
Zink. 838 868
Moly. 1 269
Boron. 198 109

TBN. 8.0 8.3
Vis@100c. 10.9 10.52
Vis@40c. 62.0 62.61
Vis@-30c. 4,576. 6,077
Vol. 11.3 12.4

Price at WM as of Aug 20, 2016 .... ST is $4.97 per quart and PYB is $4.24 per quart.

Now for my question.... For a person who changes there oil say every 5,000 miles just what are you going to gain by going to a cheep synthetic oil over a premium conventional oil? Looking at the numbers both oils are real close will a car or truck ever know the difference? Do you think it will really matter over the life of the vehicle?

Just wondering what your thoughts are on this.

Big difference in moly. Many buy based on cost of 5 quart jug. So $17.47 for the ST jug versus pyb jug at versus $13.97 on rollback reg price is $16.47.

For 5000 miles pyb is more than up to the job, so go with the cheaper of the two.

I have PYB on subscribe and save on Amazon for just over $11 a jug of 5 quarts.
I have ran it often to 7-8k miles. My choice over ST. Any day!

How come you don't like ST? You told someone to pm you about it in the past.

ST synthetic is Dexos licensed, and it's on sale often. Last rollback it was $12 a jug. Easy choice at that price.

This will be an interesting thread

I agree with you car51.... ST that's Dexos approved is a WINNER here. PYB is still good stuff indeed but I would roll with the ST in this case.

ST gets bad rap for being "Wal Marts" brand, but now that SOPUS has been exposed for not having this un-godly NOACK people see that ST is a good oil; he** NAPA OIL is good for my 6,500 OCI

With Pennz Platinum on sale throughout 2016 at $2.57/qt that's what I'll buy over PYB or ST synthetic. And if AutoZone should decide to sell it on clearance in December at $2/qt, you'll be able to get it for $0/qt after rebate...only paying the sales tax.

As stated earlier, ST syn meets dexos standards, while PYB does not.

But it's all moot when Napa Synthetic is on sale for $2.99/qt this month. Napa Synthetic is rebranded Synpower.

You know when people have fallen for Pennzoil's marketing scheme when they pick a conventional over a synthetic at the same price point.
