I'm not even going to attempt to try and look this up, so I will just ask.

Has anyone on here used the combination of PYB (Pennzoil Yellow Bottle) and MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil) together? If so, do you have any kind of test results, even if only a UOA (Used Oil Analysis)?

Thank you

I've used them together many times for myself and for friends. Sorry I don't have pictures, compression tests, or a UOA. So you'll have to take my word, sorrry.

Anyway over 35+ years I have used it, and PYB was my favorite Dino oil, in fact it still is. I have silenced lifters, cleaned engines, and got a lot of buddies of mine using it over the years. These pages are probably scattered with my MMO stories, LOL someone PM'ed me and called me the MMO Czar.

If you are thinking of trying it with PYB, it is a great combo. PM me if you like Johnny and tell me what you are trying to accomplish and I will be happy to give you info and not bore members with it. LOL

Johnny,

You have forgotten more about oil chemistry than the rest of us have learned.........what are you up to?

You live in the wrong place to be a Czar.

Up to nothing. Upon MY recommendation, a friend at church changed the oil in his wife's 2007 Accord and his 2006 Civic using PYB 5W-20. That's great, no problem. What I did not know is that on another persons recommendation from where he works, he substituted 1-quart of oil for 1-quart of MMO in the Accord, and 1/2-quart of oil for 1/2-quart of MMO in the Civic. Now I have to be politically correct now and bite my tongue, as I do not want to say anything bad about his friend at work, especially since I also know this person and consider him a friend. I am between the rock and the hard place, so to speak. Personally, I did not nor would not recommend this. He will be changing his oil in 5K.

Nothing wrong with either car. Both engines clean and run great. This was not for some kind of fix and was not done just before an oil change, this was done with the oil change for the duration of the oil change. I did just tell him to be sure and check the oil level on a regular basis to be sure it stayed full.

He will be fine, I would however suggest he checks his oil more often. During a WI winter he should notice better cold weather starts. Take care!

And its getting beyond ridiculous.

06 Civic, 07 Accord, could still be covered by engine/powertrain warranty up to 5 years. I wouldn't add MMO to oil in car still under under warranty. But, that's just me.

I have read posts where people have done that very thing at every oil change and have not encountered any issues. Seems like not the smartest thing to me, but i doubt your buddies car will be hurt. Maybe you could talk him into changing it at 3K. You could make a convincing argument about all the stuff MMO is breaking up or clogged filters that could justify a short interval.

As long as he just does it in the wintertime I'd think it would do more good than bad. Depends on what the driving style is, too.

This could be one of those "teachable moments," as the politicians call them, about the virtues of oil weight vs. ambient temps.

Wow, your friend is running 20% solvent in his oil.

You mentioned both cars had no problems and were clean, so why did your second friend recommend this? Your second friend could be Demarpaint and you just don't know it LOL

Personally, I would mention that I wouldn't leave it in for the full OCI and leave it at that. If he asks why, tell him.

Good luck :)

Going to change my oil in 1K miles. For a 1K MMO run, how much MMO should I put in a crank case that holds 4.5 quarts? OK for using it the last 1000 miles of an oil change? Thanks.

I'd try a pint for the last 1000 miles of the OCI, you could use more, but that would mean draining off some oil. Being 1/2 qt overfilled is OK. I wouldn't be comfortable being over by a qt. JMO

I already have to drain some off because it is slightly over filled. I'll drain it down a little and pour in a pint. Should I drain off a quart and add a quart, or is that to much? Thanks.

Marvel says if you have a 5 quart system to replace 1 quart of oil with 1 quart of Marvel. And it says to never use more than 25% Marvel.

Johnny covered it. First time out I'd go with a pint, that is unless you have some kind of problem you are trying to fix.
