The new Ultra and the Boss don't have the same construction. The new Ultra is not full synthetic with a media backing material like the Boss is.

Most likely it will, and I never claimed it wouldn't.
Too bad Motorking still isn't at Fram to get info on what the delta-p vs flow is on the new Ultra. That's the only thing of concern I'd really like to know which could have been impacted by the media change. Granted, the amount of media seems to be increased, so maybe it still flows just as good ... but nobody really knows without actual flow data.
True, but it'll be well within the necessary specs for any engine it's specified for.
Truth is we're all splitting hairs here. Any engine will be well served by either the Boss or Ultra. Only we who are picky about maintenance care enough to use them. I'd bet all of our favorite vehicles are exceptionally well maintained.

They used to make the Purolator PSL filter (one I cut open a few years ago), an equal to the Fram Ultra in all aspects. Great filtration, wire backed, 2 layer media, grippy can, and silicone ADV.
They then did away with it and came out with the Boss, and changed the media and backing material, just like Fram. Oh, and also lost the grippy can with no change in price (or maybe even raised it?).
So with this information, gonna give the middle finger to Purolator as well?

Technically the Boss has been the same since it's release, but it is a renamed replacement for their old PSL filter.

The PBL replaced the PSL filter.
It is a different media than the PSL filter, which the Boss "replaced".
It would be like Fram renaming the Ultra to the "Supreme" with the internal changes, and then saying the Supreme has always been the same.
The PSL was their top tier filter, then it went away and they came out with a new top tier filter called the Boss, which used different materials (quality is debatable in both the case of the Ultra and the Puro change), but is still the same level filter.
Point is, saying you will not use an Ultra because of the recent change change but still using a Boss, even though Purolator did the exact same thing, does not make any sense.
I dunno i am born and bred in NC too. So FRAM made it easier for me to use the local option by moving away from the really sturdy full synthetic media. I'm not married to any filter though so we'll see how these new FRAMs turn out as I'm sure we'll have some posted here.
How are we going to tell that?
Figure someone will be the guinea pig run one for 20k and let us see it.

Yeah see if they look as good as OG with a full 20k. Boss media doesn't tear but ADBV may have cut issues sometimes though. Amsoil or RP may be taking the lead for sturdiest filters and they are $$$, sigh.
