The Purolator PureOne oil filter and Penzoil Platinum synthetic oil seem to get good reviews on their own merits.

Does anyone here believe there's a better filter to use with PP? - and if so, which filter and why?

The only better filter would be Amsoil's eao, with it's nano syn fiber. For my subie, I sure like the build quality of the Subaru filters.

I would say a Napa Gold or Carquest blue would be right up there too.

They are reasonably priced and use the better synthetic media.

I've been using a pure one and Penn. Plat in an 03 Dodge durango 4.7 with 58,000 miles on it. My last oil change I put 4,000 miles on the oil, and the oil was shade darker than new oil. It "appears" to be a great combination. Although this time I switched to Q Torque and a pure one filter. The Q torque was $2 cheaper than the Penn. Plat. at my Wally World.

Once you use those PureOnes' with the coating on the gasket, all others will pale in comparison when you go to remove it. The PP seems to be the current fave but I remember when Chevron held that lofty position and was dethroned rather abruptly probably due to its lack of presence on this coast due to the Shell Oil buyout-merger? Any oil with a name you recognize will due and only spend extra if you LOVE your vehicle and then it makes you feel good to use the best?

The PureONE is a great filter. I've been running them for a couple years now, before switching to Donaldson SYNTEQ filters.

That's the combination I'm running right now. No problems, no weird noises, no difference from the cheaper stuff I was running before... (except I'm running it longer because it's supposed to be better)
Price vs. apparent build quality, I like Pureone, Wix, AC (some are Wix in disguise at a cheaper price point) for filters and buy whatever's the best deal at the time. Same goes for oil.

In my GC im using PP with a motorcraft oil filter wich i think that it flows better than pure one.But pure one is one of the best filters out there.

I've been using the PP with Pure one until the Pep boys left town and went to MC. I have had a problem with MC filters leaving the gasket on when I took the filter off. Has happened twice now so I think I will go back to Pure One.

I'm using the Pennzoil Platinum/Purolator PureOne (PP/PP, I like it!) combo in my Toyota and Chrysler. The M1/M1 combo in the Chrysler produced engine noises. With PP/PP, the engine's back to being as quiet as it was from the factory. Both the Toy and Chrysler are using 5W-20.

Normally I hate the mention of the word "Purolator," since I worked for their slave-labor courier company back in my 20s and 30s. But I'm going to use a PureOne filter with Pennzoil Platinum (my second fill of it) in my next oil change this week.
