Purolator 20k gold

Decided to find out from purolator, what micron rating the 99% claim was filtering. I was kind of shocked that they’re the same as the boss filters…46 micron rating. Insane

BTW - If you call or email Purolator today for the efficiency of the Boss or 20K filter, they will tell you they can't say. Wonder why, lol. If it was good, they would be telling everyone.

When I looked up the Puro 20K, it came back with the number of LX3614. The 3614 is the same PN as for the Fram XG3614 I used for many years, which was, IIRC, rated at 99% @ about 20um. Strangely, it's wearing the same gold paint as the Fram XG?? Looks like the20k filter number for my Honda is the same deal. ***? I haven't been following the whole Fram debacle, or any of the others, but wonder if Puro has taken over what was left of Fram?.I just want something equivalent in perforamnce to the XG3614 I was buying. As it turns out, the XG3614 size fits the Escape and both my lawn tractors.

The Purolator gold 20K filter is a Walmart exclusive. Purolator has no involvement taking over whats left of Fram. Premium Guard Inc (PGI) bought what was left of Fram

If you still want a filter similar to the performance of the old Ultra, there are lots of threads in this forum discussing those PGI made filters.

@Jim Allen ... these are some of the major brands made under PGI ... any have been cut open and posted in this forum. Look for the extended use versions (99% @ 20u rated up to 10K miles). There are also the Carquest Extended Performance (black can) and an STP extended performance filter (silver can) under PGI that are rated to 20K miles and have 99% @ 25u.

They don't appear to be all that good.
The 2 layer media and the slightly terrible 46 micron at 99% rating may be neglect and clog resistant.

He was asking about the Pure One not the topic 20k filter.

Your assessment of the 20k filter is correct, Puro has sacrificed efficiency for longevity.

Takes longer to load up a filter when it only retains half of the 20u and larger particles that flow through it. Low efficiency filters are higher rate already captured particle shedders.
