Puralator L30001

I purchased a Purolator L30001 oil filter instead of the FL1A Motorcraft which was out of stock .
Are these similar in durability ?

All the Motorcrafts have silicon anti-drain valves. If you got the Purolator classic then it will be a nitrile anti-drain. The Pureone is silicon. That probally being the largest difference.

Thanks . It is a Purolator Classic .I plan on roughly a 6 month oci and have had good luck with the FL1A . I guess it will be almost the same . I am thinking on switching to the Pureone now .

I'm pretty sure the Motorcraft FL1A does not have a silicone ADBV. It is nitrile. I would describe the Purolator L30001, which is the classic design with a nitrile ADBV also, as very similar to the FL1A. Both very good for standard OCIs, but not extended.

I believe only the Motorcraft filters that end in "S" have the silicone ADBV, like the FL-820S. The last FL1-A I bought, last year, has a black ADBV that does not look like silicone. Not a big deal, but I do think silicone is better in the winter and for longer OCIs.

Here is the disclaimer that not ALL Motorcraft oil filters have silicon ADBVs. This statement is in the very site that you refer to:

"Silicone, available in many Motorcraft® oil filter anti-drain back valves, is superior to nitrile rubber, which can become brittle over time "

I'm thinking AE may be correct here. If it doesn't have the S at the end, it's likely the black nitrile. The biggest difference then might be if the FL1-A has thread end bypass, as many, but not all MC's do. Some folks prefer thread end, to me it not a big deal either way.

The L30001 should be just fine for a ~5k/6month OCI, and 97.5% efficient ain't too shabby. Use with confidence.

It is nitrile. I use the FL1A regularly, and they are nitrile. The FL1A also has the thread end bypass.

In general I think the Motorcraft filters are among the best for "bang for the buck" if you can get the size you need at WalMart for less than $4. Solid construction, though as we have discussed on here before, an uncertain efficiency rating.
