PU as a high mileage oil?

Just throwing this out there. I"m thinking SOPUS would have gotten a lot more bites with PU as an oil for high mileage vehicles. I honestly did not feel there was a huge difference between PU and PP marketing or pricewise and was really stumped as to why WM actually carried both. Somebody also mentioned that Pennzoil's high mileage oil wasn't synthetic or even a blend like the other brands. I think if they tweaked the PU formula to be better for high mileage vehicles and marketed it as such, we probably would not be rushing around all the WM's trying to buy PU on clearance. Just my thinking.

Also, let it be known that my viewpoint is biased, since four out of the five vehicles my family owns are all over 100,000 miles.

I think their intent was to serve it up as a head to head combatant againt Mobil 1's best brews. Oil wise I think they accomplished their goal, marketing wise most definitely not, at least at Walmart. JMO.

I agree SOPUS does not have a strong contender in the HM market, Pennzoil is fine oil but they need to take it to the next level if they want to dent Maxlife's market share.

It could be very possible to take a page out of Valvoline's book, and offer a syn blend Maxlife (regular) and Full Synthetic Maxlife.

I personally think the lack of 15,000 miles between oil changes not being printed on the bottle hurts them. Castrol Edge with Titanium and Mobil 1 Extended Performance list long mileage oil change intervals on the bottle.

This in my opinion was the grave error. However, keep in mind that in the original Q&A its very well touted cleaning ability was only "guaranteed" for 4,000 miles. Several of the Walmart's in my area have dropped PU entirely.

It's pretty tough to go up against the market leader (I believe Mobil 1 is #1 in synthetics) when you charge a higher price than them. I never checked the price on Mobil 1 Extended Performance, but I did notice that all the other Mobil 1 prices (regular and HM) were $24.97. If you want to go against the established leader, you have to give consumers an incentive to try it. Charging more for it is not that incentive.
