So I saw an ad on my phone for Castrol High Mileage oils. Thought that was strange. Is the interworld keeping track of me and marketing according to me being a BITOG member? We all need to be careful about what we say here!

Anyways....just saw how they advertised a phosphorus replacement technology to help protect the catalytic converter. What is it replaced with? Magnetech molecules? Is this something I need to worry about? Because I normally worry about someone stealing mine.....now this???

Curious if anyone is knowledgeable on the topic and what the "secret sauce" is as a replacement?

Thanks for posting this info.
Chevron has their Delo 600 oils to protect Diesel exhaust systems and Valvoline has their secret recipe for ring cleaning and they seems to be working out. So maybe Castrol found a good thing for cars.

I miss magnatec...

That Phosporus replacement thing has been going on for about a decade now. Not sure what that is, but they only advertise it for the High Mileage line, so it might provide an inferior protection.

(Castrol`s advertisement/information video for this product, from their official page. Mods please delete it if it is not allowed)

That was a very entertaining video. Is the lower phosphorus amount noticeable on used oil analysis?

If it was better performing, they would very well use it in their more expensive oil as well. There has to be trade off. And since they sre using it in the cheaper oil, it is not the price
High Mileage oils are trying to protect the catalytic converters more as the vehicle ages. That's less of an issue for the rest of the oil lineup.

^ Right. And High Mileage vehicles usually burn more oil than newer vehicles.

However, I think the latest API and ILSAC standards are cat. converter friendly enough.

I’d bet it’s an ‘ester blend’ of some kind, similar to Magnatec. That would provide ashless anti-wear protection.
Anecdotal, but the occasional start up TC clatter on my G5 was completely gone while I had this oil in the engine.

Oh actually you have a great point here that I didn't think about before.

High milage cars already do have more phosphorus ash on the cat. And they are likely to be burning more oil, so this is even more important

As an avid mobil one user I did go with Castrol edge high mileage for my 94 S10 this last oci. I've noticed it is quieter and doesn't use hardly any oil. With mobil one and others I would go through about a quart in 5,000 MI
