Long time never check out the Pennzoil website, and now they publish 25% cleaner than Mobil 1, 35 % cleaner than Valvoline SynPower and 40% cleaner than Castrol Edge with Syntec.

So at least now it is open to public how all those ranks in terms of cleanliness, ... keep crossing finger if there will be next chart on wear protection

FWIW, according to the Pennzoil website, it was the Sequence IIIG test that was used to compare PU to M1.

It compares Ultra to Mobil 1 but since Ultra is their top oil shouldn't they compare it to EP to o a fair apples to apples comparison. After all, even Mobil claims that as you go up their synthetic ladder that their oils improve.

PU does have a good slug of detergents in the add pack,if it cleans better then M1 lol thats gotta be better then new.

PU isn't a extended drain oil like EP is so one should not compare the two.

I like me some of that pennzoil ultra.....mobil1 is all i used to run awhile back, not anymore, especially when shell almost gives their oils away.

+1 to that. Ever notice that these oil companies always compare their product to Mobil 1 oils. I'm suprised that Pennzoil would go there in advertisements. They always seemed to be a company that stands on the quality of their product instead of politizing their product.

Mobil 1 reformulated their lineup for SN/GF-5, so it might be a whole new ballgame now.

I found it interesting that in the Mobil 1 sequence IIIG picture (showing the whole set of pistons) one of the pistons looks just like the M1 piston pic shown by Pennzoil (top piston 2nd column) while the rest look more or less identical to the Ultra piston shown by Pennzoil.

How is it "politicizing" their product? They're pointing out a competitive advantage of their product to another brand, and referencing the documented test which proves the results.

They're promoting a product--what's wrong with pointing out it's competitive advantage compared to others? What exactly is suitable advertising, because I don't think I've ever seen a single oil company about whom people haven't complained about their ads.

It is advertising and marketing, both of which have very little basis in facts. It's meant to make you feel good about the product if you already use it, and it's also meant to make you feel as though you are missing out on something if you're using an "inferior" product.

They can pull percentages out and trot them around as if they really mean anything, but there's simply no way to validate them, nor is there a way to prove that the percentages will ever make any real difference to the average consumer.

The reality is that for vast majority of the motoring public it will never make a lick of difference, so it's marketed at a boutique segment that feels they need a superior product for their average use.

that may be true, but when they say mobil 1 cleans better than synpower or syntec, i tend to believe that. they would have no reason to lie about which competitor performed better. not to mention, i already viewed those two as inferior products and this just confirms that.

Yes, it does do that..... It lays the cards out indicating which oils are the best at keeping things clean, and Mobil 1 performed better than all the others obviously. Something I think many of us on here have been saying for a while regarding our experience with it.

However, I like the pictures Ben posted, as it shows that the SN version of M1 may nullify these claims.
