I have a 97 Chevy Astro with 136k miles. My PS pump just went south. Should I use PS fluid or Synthetic such as Mobil 1 ATF or ? I see Mobil 1 doesn't have a PS fluid, they sugest using ATF. Any comments will be appreciated.

Just use regular ATF if it saids ATF. Synthetic PS fluid or ATF fluid for the PS are for Off-roaders where PS overheating or Failure occurs alot.

I would use synthetic fluid.Might as well get the full benefits of what synthetics are used for.It will help the pump run cooler and more efficiant and extend its life.Unless, you dont want those benefits......

If your owner's manual calls for ATF, Mobil 1 ATF is a good choice, as is Redline and RP.

OTOH, if your manual calls for GM PS fluid, do NOT use ATF! In this case, there are several good syn and syn blend PS fluids available. Valvoline Synpower, Redline, RP, etc...
