The PS 27712 (left) was put on during my recent HG job. I bet it's fine for the 3750 mile OCI recommended by Subaru. I would never run this filter by choice... to little media, too thin, adbv was stiff.

Replaced it with a new XG7317 (right) and AFE.

The Fram looks a million times better. I'm surprised it calls for a filter as small as that proselect... The Wix equivalent to the 7317 has more media iirc

Is it a Fram or a Wix or something else?

XG7317 = FRAM
ProSelect 27712 = Wix

True, I've opened that one before too. However the top end bypass design of the wix limits the amount of media in the can when compared to the alternatives:

If you look at the Puro 14612 and the Tokyo Roki, in the link above they make that 27712 look tiny.

But to be clear, the XG7317 is not the equivalent application to the 7712.

The equivalent Wix or Napa Gold application is the 5/7356.

So you are running an oversize application using the 7317, correct?

Correct.

The Fram Ultra XG6607 has more than enough media to spare for the oem interval and then some. No reason to go oversized unless you're interested in extending oci/fci.

Thanks for the comparison cut and post though.

Exactly, definitely enough for the 3750 OCI recommended by Subaru. I would not run it the 15k miles listed on the box though.

I plan on going 1 year OCI/FCI going forward, which should shake out to around 10-12k miles.
