Proper viscosity for '08 Vibe?

05 does have the longer dipstick and holds less oil than the 06 and later 1ZZFE motors.

(I've always wondered if I could get an extra 1/2 quart in the motor but since all is good, why bother?)

According to what I've read on the internet, Toyota did change a few things in 06 (but if only because of 5w-20?)

I'm sticking with 5w30 in my Corolla. It works well and MPG is good enough for me.

It would work well. I DOUBT if there would be ANY problem with "additive clash".

Then by all means run 5W30. I read about TSB's which I thought applied to my 08 Jeep. I called 3 dealers and asked the same question and got the same answer three times. The TSB's didn't apply to my vin #. Before I go changing oil grades I'd be certain the TSB applied to my car, especially if I dug it up on the Internet.
