Well as the story goes for my 16th birthday I asked my mom for a Cobra. I was wanting a Mustang Cobra. I got this scale model AC Cobra as a gag gift. I loved the look of the car and have wanted one ever since. Well, almost 32 years later I’ve made my dream come true. Yesterday I picked up a FFR MK3 kit. I will begin assembling it in the spring when the weather is nicer.

Very cool. What’s the difference between the different Factory Five kits? My FIL briefly had a Factory Five MK4 with a Coyote motor in it but sold it as he struggled to get out of it. I never even got a chance to drive it. He didn’t build his.

Is it already painted or is that a base and you can primer and paint the color you want? Are you going for the full 427 or the smaller was it a 289 or 327 on the original? If you don't have headlights I'd suggest looking at the rallylights website as they have alot of oem hella and high quality options. I'd go hid if it were me. Keep the pics coming.

Mine is an MK3.1 so almost the MK4. The kits like most things engineered get more advanced with revisions. Biggest change from my understanding was the body at the back of the car.

The body has not been finished. It will need sanded and prepped. I’m going to try and do it all. I’m going for a black out look so having the black fiberglass and gel coat should help.

As far as an engine the car was ordered for a 302W. There are headers and parts for that. The simple answer seems to be a 347 stroker. The frame will accept a 351W so a 427 stroker is not out of the question. I want to start assembling and will probably decide. Whatever it ends up being the plan is to use the Holley Snipper FI unit on E85.

Are you planning on full coil overs for easy ride height adjustment, or something like Ohlins with a remote reservoir? I'd suggest if you don't have any suspension ideas take a look at Voghtland. They're a well made but lesser known company that makes great suspension and springs. Looks like a fun but long term project.

The prior 2 owners of my FILs were scared of it, if that helps your power train decision at all. Keep us updated as the project progresses.

I’ll be using the FFR recommended Koni coil overs.

If it will take a Windsor, why stop at 427? With an aftermarket block it’s not hard at all to get to 454 cubes (4.160” bore x 4.170” stroke… about $2200 for rotating assembly. This keeps enough compression height (1.165”) to keep the oil ring out of the wrist pin bore.

well folks, I finally brought the cobra home on March 28th. The weather has been cooperating so far. I have managed to work on a few little things but made some real progress yesterday with my son. We got the UCA, LCA, spindles and coil overs mounted for the front end. We tried to rebuild the rear end but I need to re-shim the pinion first. Great day and some excellent father son bonding time. I'll post some pictures soon.
