PRO Line Filter Opinions

I picked up 2 PRO LInes today for my 05 Liberty.

They look identical to the puralator pure plus filter except for the cheap sticker and metallic blue paint.

Only difference I could find was the Pure plus had a red BPV and the PRO line had black.

Whats your opinions on these filters? My OCI is 6k miles with the world famous GC. Should I change the Pro line oil filter at 3k? I searched but did not find much info other than they are made by puralator for pep boys. Have not seen many Yays or Nays for these... gimme your opinions folks!

I believe that it is similar to the total grip filters at AAP. Less media and a nitrile ADBV. I'd take the silicone ADBV and more media of the Pure one for a 6k oil change. If you replace it twice your up to the price of a Pure one.

BTW, I got these Prolines for 79 cents after the rebate... I could not resist.

So the 6k OCI is a pushing it you think?

should be fine for 6k. i ran prem plus for 5-6k all the time w/o probs.

6k on the pro lines it is... I guess if I get nervous I can change the filter at 6k and top off..

LOL,

Nope, it was on my wife's 98 Civic with 121,000 miles. Since we are getting rid of the car next year I decided just to change the oil (Havoline dino) every 8K miles / filter every 16K.

Its a Honda and will not blow up

Yeah, but like I said it will not blow up just cause I use dino oil for 8000 miles + my wife does alot of highway driving (94 miles per day). Driving 80 MPH on the highway is very easy on the oil / motor.

I use an 'oversized' Proline oil filter that is twice the size of the OEM filter. I forgot to mention that the cam seal is leaking.....so I have to add oil every 2 months.

Generally red or orange ADBVs are silicone, but not nessecailly.

I think at 6k the nitrile may begin to harden. Without opening the filter it would be hard to tell if it did.

Even good ol' nitrile can be tinted orange - color is NO guarantor. By the way, ProLines are currently on sale at Pep Boys for $1.79 - any stocked size (limit 2, though). Additionally, Pep Boys is offering a dollar rebate, so for 79 cents for what pretty much amounts to a Purolator "PremiumPLUS" . . .

I was thinking about getting a couple of them this week..I thought they were the same as the Advance "TotalGrips"..
Still worth the $.79 even if they are the totalGrip version...even better if they are the premiumPlus though.

What would the P/N be for that oversized Honda filter? L24458 is discontinued and L24457 is w/o by-pass.

Has anyone compared the amount of filter media between a Proline and a Purolator of the same model number? I have the following data.

Proline 14459 = 100sqin
Proline 24458 = 156sqin
Purolator Prem plus 24458 = 174sq in
Purolator Pure one 14459 = 114sq in
Purolator Pure one 24458 = 198sq in

I am missing the Purolator Premium Plus 14459. Anyone have that data?

In the examples that I have cut up,
the PL24011 had 236 sq in.,
the L24011 had 245 sq in.
The Advance AA3980 equivalents (purolator) had 199 sq in.
The AA "totalgrip" should be the same as the Proline

My L10111 and PL10111 had the exact same pleat count. The Total grip I cut apart had much less.
