What are the rules for onside kicks?

Under the new rule, onside kicks are only allowed in the fourth quarter of games and if the team doing it is losing. The losing team additionally must declare it is attempting the onside kick, thus eliminating the surprise factor prior to the rule change.Sep 16, 2024

Yeah. The new dynamic kickoff this season changed all kicks. Due to how the players are lined up and forced to wait until the ball is caught, it would be impossible to both kick or recover an onside unless you let the other team know. The dynamic kickoff is a failed experiment, in my opinion, since you can still touchback. So kickoffs are still nearly entirely ceremonial, as they were before.

Too many concussions already after only three games. Cutting down on the number of onside kicks could maybe cut down on those head banging onside kick type collisions which can be more common in these do or die desperate scenarios.

Before long, the NFL will be flag football. I have thought for a long time about league wide fixing. Sometimes things are just better left alone, especially by lawyers.

I'm not a fan of the new kick-off rules. Didn't see anything wrong with the old old rules. It's a live ball at all times unless it goes out of bounds.

I'm also not a fan of the shift ban in MLB. You get 7 fielders and they should be able to play wherever they want to play.

Mel Kiper calling for the ban of two high safeties. In all the silliness, they NFL might consider it.

Fine, ban two high safeties. I'll play nickel and have my corner play deep.
