Went into a AAP (Advance Auto Parts) store today and found a table with multiple 5 quart jugs of Fram motor oil, all different weights on it. Each jug had a red clearance sticker on it stating $4.95. Taking the bait I grabbed a few jugs. Let the games begin. At the register they rang up $14.95. I am stumped. Woman says oh look, the '1' is missing...

Nice..... I hate that feeling you get when you know they aren't going to honor the price you found on the product itself. I told her you need to fix the rest of the 40 labels on those jugs to avoid misleading people then left empty handed.

I would have asked for them for 4.95 then taken pics to send to their corporate if they didn't
might not get you the oil. but give the turd who did that a headache.

It seems to be a regular thing for AAP. The same Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 I buy for my wife's car at Walmart for $28 ($25 when on sale), is $43 at AAP, but you get a "free" filter with the bundle. The 5qt jug from walmart plus the $10 CQ Premium is still cheaper than their bundle.

I only buy filters from them, and usually when I'm near one when I run errands if I need any.

Every day it feels like there is just one more scam or fraud. If the label says 4.95 it’s a fraud to not sell it to you for that price. And a waste of your time.

Also why more people shop online.
Shopping online is no guarantee of getting what is advertised. Walmart is famous for the website advertising three 5 qt. jugs of oil, but only delivering one.

Yes, this is true. There are even more laws governing this in online orders because it involved the interstate commerce clause, but the also fail to honor it.

I have had that happen as well. But I wasted a whole lot less time. One time they told me to keep the one and refunded my money.

It was an honest error. No big deal. Nothing to complain about at all. Never once has an online order (other than Ebay) been represented or priced incorrectly for myself. I don't understand all the fuss?

The one exception on eBay was I once got a counterfeit set of Norelco blades. I was instantly refunded and was told to keep the counterfeited set.

Some states have laws that put the onus on the retailer to be vigilant about their price tags -- the price marked must be honored, whether valid or not, in which case the tags should have been updated, or pulled. It can also be a policy that the store maintains on its own volition.

Some retailers have a practice of assigning $0.01 or 0.02 prices to items that are to be pulled from sale, and meant for salvage, but still left on the shelf. They can withdraw such items from sale, and not have to sell that item for practically nothing.

AAP is not one would call a well-run company, based on my own customer experiences with them, as well as just listening to a store manager talking with corporate trying to figure out how to do things most store managers would know.
