Loobed, I also have the same printer cable and am in San Jose area. If you can stop by my work or home you can have it for free too.

Make sure you have the port in your computer first. Those 25 pin parallel ports have disappeared many years ago.

I am thinking that OP would be better of picking up a cheap (under $10) 4-port Ethernet switch if he has no spare ports on his router. He can always use the switch later whereas a dedicated parallel cable would be pretty much useless for any other device later on.

The link shows that he can get them shipped to his house under $10! Newegg

Realistically, he could purchase a brand new printer for less than the ink he might need with this dinosaur of a printer :-)

Toner for my LaserJet 4050 runs about $50.

Yes, I can get a brand new printer for $50.

The difference is, that toner is good for 10,000 pages (yes, 10,000).

The ink cartridge that comes with the brand new printer is lucky to get 500 and costs $30 to replace.

Let's think about this: $50 for 10,000 or $30 for 500?

No, I don't need color. If I did, I have an old Oki C5100 color laser and that is still cheaper to feed than an inkjet printer. I've had that printer for 3 years and have only had to replace a couple of the toner carts for a total cost of $60(they were almost empty when I got it). How many inkjet cartridges would have dried out from lack of use in that time?

Basically, inkjet stinks for high-volume printing because the cartridges are expensive per page. It also stinks for low-volume printing because the cartridges go bad over time much quicker than a toner cartridge.

Yes, a lot of these old printers are bulletproof. I still have a LaserJet II built May 1989 that works perfectly.

Also, a lot of the older high-end printers like the LaserJet 4050 can be upgraded--I added a duplexer to it for $40.

I use a 11 year old HP LaserJet 1000 series printer and the thing will NOT die, it just keeps working PERFECTLY and has excellent print quality as well.

Only down side is that you cannot get it to work with Windows 64 bit OS.
