I'm looking for some advice from someone who may have done this before. I'm thinking of priming my fuel filter with Techron or Seafoam to provide a thorough injector cleaning next time I change the filter. I understand Seafoam recommends this procedure on Diesel engines, but I can't come up with any search results for doing it to a gasoline engine. Any ideas/ recommendations? P.S. I have already done seafoam through the brake booster line and it seemed to work well.

Dumb idea....!

Just prime your filter with a top-tier gasoline....and a few oz. of MMO each fill-up.... and it will accomplish the same thing....keeping your fuel pump working easier and longer....and keeping your injectors and spark plugs clean. One other benefit....you might get a little better mileage.

Works well for me..........

Its going to take a LOT of cranking to clear that stuff out of the filter and through the injectors before the engine will start. Or it might start and then promptly throw a misfire code due to the fact that those additives (esp. Seafoam) are mostly heavier mineral spirits than gasoline and won't burn properly.

I would not use either of them for that purpose, and wouldn't use Seafoam for anything except loosening rusty bolts. Certainly not as a fuel additive, and the seafoam "treatments" that are make such popular smoke shows on Youtube are much more likely to bend a connecting rod than to actually clean any combustion chamber deposits. In fact Seafoam probably *causes* more deposits.

Have you failed an emissions test or are you having drivability issues? What make you think you need to clean you injectors?

If you are running E10, keep in mind that Ethanol is a very powerful and corrosive cleaner. Your fuel system is likely as clean as the day your car rolled off the assemble line.

There is no need to prime a fuel filter, you just install it and turn the car on.

I don't know about "priming" the fuel filter.....I'd just let it be....Though I am a fan of Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel, 2-3 oz. per 10 gallons max....that will add proper lubrication, particularly to the E-10 gasoline...

Seafoam may recommend it for diesels.....but FI engines work a little differently than diesels.....our FI filters don't get that dirty like diesles do...unless you are using cheap and/or bad gasoline.....

Sounds like a good way to get a lot of undiluted sauce to the injectors. Try and start it. If it starts, stop it and let the stuff work at full strength.
if it does not start, crank it enough to ensure it got to the injectors, and again. let it sit for a while.

Is this a returnless fuel injection system? If not, the stuff in the fuel filter will be rapidly diluted as the fuel pump runs. I suspect that most returnless fuel injection systems don't have an external filter.
