I read alot where people say to stay away from the Prestone brand of DexCool and use another brand. What about for my GMC 3500 that has no known issues with DexCool? With coupon codes and the Prestone rebate I can get 2 Gal for $10.98 before tax. Seems almost to good to pass up.

Thanks

I'm not a big fan of Prestone dexcool but it would work fine in an application with a pressurized reservoir.

There is nothing wrong with prestone dexcool. I use it in all of my GM cars. I just purchased 2 gallons of 100% and did the rebate thing to.

I think people said to avoid prestone because the green "all makes all models" is a dexcool clone. People who purchse it are not aware that it is dexcool, and may be using it in applications that don't call for it. But the prestone orange dexcool product is very good indeed.

Having said that, I drain and fill every other year to keep it fresh and to check for issues.

Funny that many of our fleet vans have a non-pressurized reservoir as well as a heat exchanger system that nearly triples the coolant volume (guaranteeing air in the system), and yet we run dex till component failure. This means up to 200-250k miles before ANY cooling system service of any kind.

No sludging, no clogging, none of these commonly repeated complaints. I think a couple of popular theories here are baloney, but that's just in my experience.

FWIW we use Prestone pre-mix when we need replacement dex.

I wouldn't see any issue using Prestone Brand DexCool.

Now, if you are referring to Prestone All Makes/Models, a Dexclone, don't see why that wouldn't work as an alternative. Funny thing is I see the rebate is for $7/($15 for two) gal for concentrate, only $5 for premix. Twice the coolant/gal with concentrate and greater rebate. I'd buy the concentrate, along with some distilled from Wally and go that route. I don't like paying for half water in a premix.

A few years ago it was suggested (on this site) that the Prestone AMM and Prestone Dexcool were the exact same product except for color.
I'd use either in an application with a 'dry' intake manifold.

I agree and just maintain it by doing a drain and fill every few years... Does not hurt to replace ANY coolant by doing this procedure.
