That is a hefty spring for an oil filter. For the bypass valve I assume.

That spring just puts pressure on the internal parts to keep them together and against the base plate. The BPV has its own spring.

Intuitively, it looks like the P type gasket would create a good seal but I don’t want to start an internet Bittog rumour causing a run on them!

Both styles seal well if the filter is installed correctly.

I paid more for a Premium Guard PG461ex for my 2020 Outback 2.5L w/o turbo more than a Mobil 1 filter.
