Premium Guard Ext Life - 99% at 25 microns, but micron rating is 42-60?

See efficiency vs particle size curves posted above.

With all the info on the table, I'm going with "99% for particles as small as 25u" means it's 99% @ 25u The PG built MicroGard Select also has the same efficiency rating ... don't think it's a "coincidence".
Thanks for the information. That is what I was looking for to better understand this. From that info, I guess the micron rating is pretty useless and meaningless and the muti-pass efficiency is more of a real world test or spec.

There needs to be an efficiency with a micron rating ... like "99% @ 20 microns" ... or it may also be stated as "99% for particles greater than 20 microns" which is the same thing. ISO 4548-12 actually says it should be stated with "greater than xx microns" ... Fram does this, per ISO 4548-12.

Look at those efficiency vs particle size curves and pick any point on a curve. That is then the "xx% @ yy microns" efficiency of the filter. The curve defines the efficiency at every particle size it shows for the filter on the x-axis.

I have noticed that Vietnam factory VAFI that produces many of the PG network of products seems to have some of the most robust media I have ever seen at least from a light test perspective which has to have some merit.. right?

That is a Puro Boss and a Bosch "Premium" and below are both Vietnam VAFI PG media Napa Gold and Microgard Select.

And the pure one isn’t even in the PG XL league efficiency wise…build quality wise purolator is abysmal
I've personally cut open 30 or so Pure One and Boss filters and have never seen an abysmal looking one . If so I wouldn't have kept using them . One person recently saw a boss with bad louvers, I also have not seen that . I'm a 3k interval guy .

Plenty here with torn media, sloppy loose glue, closed louvers etc. Not to mention what they did to Wix…

I'm talking Pure One and Boss . Not the motorcraft junk . Never seen a torn Boss or Pure One on this site . Possible to point me to a link please ? Not arguing here and not defending the tearolaters I've seen here

No torn Boss obviously with the backing but closed louvers, cut adbv, sloppy glue. Pure One torn media plus above mentioned defects. When I can I’ll search for threads, driving now.

You realize that you are comparing opaque paper with translucent polyester fiber ...

Did a quick search. All the tears were L series like you said. Some older boss and one with adbv cuts and closed louvers. Nothing recent that was horrible except motorcraft, Wix and Mobil 1 filters. If the louvers are open and you’re ok with the efficiency the boss and one have been good in the last year or so and not abysmal.

Nothing horrible other than wix , motorcraft, Mobil 1 , lol . Thanks Glenda 👍

yes.. maybe why filtration not so great on the Boss.
Uh ... no. You must be unfamiliar with how good modern polyester fiber is. It is used today in some of the best industrial filters. Also, most of the running rigging in a modern yacht is made from it, because it is so strong. Paper may block more light when put under a microscope, but it is a wood pulp product and the opposite extreme of "robust". But it is cheap.

yeah but I would expect a Boss to be better filtration than the blend media filters for the money.
