My dad was a mechanic for 30+ years and he said they used diesel fuel all the time to clean out sludged up motors.

And if you think that's crazy, how about using water to "steam clean" the combustion chambers! Just run the motor until it's nice and hot, rev it up to about 3k and then start spraying hot water down the carb with a spray bottle.

The water would instantly explode into steam in the cylinders, steam cleaning them. It makes sense when you remember that there are water injection kits available for turbocharged cars. Users report that their pistons and valves stay perfectly spotless.

Boy this whole topic brings back the old days. Back in the 50's we would clean engines with a mix of a gallon of kerosene and 2 pints of STP (the maple syrup stuff). Run the mixture for 10 minutes and lower RPMs (maybe 2000 max) and drain. Seemed to clean everything up OK, at least a lot of bad crap came out the drain hole.

Would I do it today? Not a chance!

As for how good the old engines were - if you could get 100,000 miles before a rebuild it was a miracle. Valve jobs every 70,000 miles were common. Solid lifters would wear out and hydrolic lifters would collapse. Those were the good old days.

If people were getting 200,000 miles from an engine in the 50's and early 60's I sure didn't see any of them. But I sure rebuilt a lot of them before 100,000 miles.

What about the Japanese Americans. Particulary the remaining older ones who were US citizens but became involuntary guests of the US gumnt in WWII.

I don't approve of this sort of ugliness from anyone. Those folks endured a horrific injustice. I was thinking more of contemporary Japan. I'm no scholar of that society, but I did live there for about 18 months. There's plenty of good there, and I met many wonderful Japanese. Ironically though, that society does have a racist streak in it. But it's not affirmative evil as we think of racism. It's just, IMO, a product of growing up in a place where virtually everyone has black hair, brown eyes, and similar-colored skin. If you ever want to feel stared at or unwelcome, find a six-foot-two, blonde haired, blue eyed American and walk the streets of Hiroshima with him (I've done that). BTW, at 6' and with auburn hair, I don't look much less alien than my friend did, but I certainly couldn't disappear into any crowds.

On the other hand, as a white male American, I've had the ugly experience of being chased out of a restaurant in Japan for being white, while being called a racial slur ("No geizhing*, no geizhing, go, go away..."). So the flip side of my "be nice" sentiment is that I frankly don't feel much sympathy for the Japanese, as a group, on the subject of racial mistreatment. If the Japanese are offended by American use of slurs, they need to clean up their own act in a big way!

*Don't ask me to spell this one. It's Japanese for "white stranger" or "white foreigner" depending upon interpretation. They use the term with every bit as much venom as a 1950s Klansman using the infamous "N" word.

It's "gai-jin" and roughly translates to "white devil." Yes, the Japanese are a very xenophobic, proud people to the point of being racist sometimes. I've dated a Japanese girl off and on for the last 10 years, what does that say about me?

a) The Japanese are one of the most homogeneous racist societies left on earth. Mostly it stems from ignorance and to some extent knowledge. They do have a low crime rate, for example, but they aren't without problems.

b) "*** " use to name a person or thing as Japanese, is derogatory and should not be used.

On topic: AutoRx is the ticket.

We must always be reminded that the 3D we live in is a Physical Flaw and Man becomes a Physical Flaw is why we have these forum to discuss the flaws and the good on this forum...physical mechanics...engine oils, additives..etc..etc...

If we live in a perfect world we wouldn't be here...We are only human..trying to correct the flaws we live in..

who cares what you title an ethnic group.

lomg live the 1st amendment, custom designed by the framers to **** and offend everyone inlcuding the king of england.

does it make slurs right? not necessarily, but do not censor me and I will not censor you.

call me a dot head, rice burner, gear head, mexican whatever you want...I do not care I have higher agendas on my mind.

if your offended I am sorry, perhaps pay attention to other things that converting your ofendees thoughts.

i love japanese food too, but that wont stop me from acknowledging the word *** and the same thing as the japanese mainlanders xenophobic treatments of whites, chinese and indians over there.

Not to steer this thread further off course, but I am something of a "nippofile", love the food, collect military sake cups, drink mainly sake, etc. Those being my credentials I can say that the japanese culture is one of the most racist on earth. Review the images of africans used on a lot of advertizing for a start. Review the treatment of the Bukaharin or "untouchables" in that society, because they have a family trade of being leatherworkers. Like anything else, there are many sides to examne.

Outrun, Then find a slur forum or change your handle to Archie Bunker. It just gets us further off topic when someone pushes a button and if it's insulting then it's against the rules. Making a mistake is forgivable but freedom of speech doesn't include the use of N, J, or other slurs on an oil forum. If it offends those of that group and another option is given, then there is no reason to use it other than disrespect and I don't think that the JPN are being over sensitive here. I wouldn't waist my time and call you on it if you called me a Kraut but hiding behind free speech to arbitrarily offend someone bugged me.

I tried to clean this up as best as I could. If your post is missing, so be it, just trying to maintain some semblance of order. I also moved the topic to general because it is to far off topic to be viable.

Please refrain from using offensive words.

Thanks.
