years ago would see them in the yard or while fishing . Sometimes one would land on you on hot summer night

. Haven't seen a mantis in over ten years . Such a shame , http://scottthong.wordpress.com/2006/08/30/killer-mantis/ . Gotta respect that .

Yeah, they used to be everywhere when I was a kid. Same with Walking Sticks. I`ve noticed you never see very many of the exotic bugs anymore. A pity........they`re really beautiful.

even MONARCHs are rarely seen . See more stuck to car grilles than flying about .

We get them fairly regulaly, prolly not much different to when I was a kid.

The big stick insects are a bit rarer 'though.

The caption said "It's on now...(Vulgar language here)" in the original picture but I edited it for BITOG so I don't get put on a vacation again.

Makes it more funny IMO if you sub in the words though...

I have only seen them when I was a kid in Hawaii. That was before 1973.
I didn't even know they were anywhere else in the US. I never saw any in San Diego in the 2.5 yrs I was there.

Probably less of those things because of pesticides and other pollutants.

We have a lot in NZ,the females come inside to lay their eggs,we find them everywhere in the house. When I lived on Waiheke Island in some parts there were so many they were like a flock of birds.

I saw one of them in back yard a couple of years ago. They're all over, you don't see them because they're so well disguised.

The only reason I saw it is because I was pruning my roses and I was literally 6" away when suddenly I noticed it. It looked just like the rose bush. I never would have noticed otherwise

1. They are creepy. Imagine if they were our size......wow.

2. We probably saw them more as kids because we were outside more and looking for stuff like that.

That's pretty close to what we face too.

I loathe eating at FIL's place, I've nicked him Chemical Ali.

I saw one in the field across the road the other day. I have captured them and brought them home and turned them loose in the garden, but they disappear. I am not a big time pesticide sprayer. I have the dog fenced out of the garden.

We have them up here in Canada and I have seen quite a few this summer in the backyard. I think because I live in the country near crop fields...

Last autumn I was home waiting for the wife to come home. Heard the garage door open and then a lot of honking. While I was going to check and see what was up, my wife called. I picked up the phone and all I could hear was loud screams.

Went out and it turns out there was a praying mantis on the outside wall terrorizing my wife who was on the driveway, in the car with windows up.I chased the praying mantis away so that she could drive into the garage.
