Great post. If it has the API star-burst and donut it looks like it is good enough to use. That US economy stuff should not be sold.

n/r means "not run". PQIA dies not always run every test on oils that are clearly obsolete, such as SAs or SBs, or in this case an oil that gives no indication of its service category or viscosity grade.

The Economy Motor Oil clearly states on its label that the oil can only be used to top off. It also states the oil doesn't meet warranty requirements of newer cars.

no engine destroyers this month..

the us sprint seems to be mixed with used oil or something and below requirements for additives.

What do you guys make of that formulation? If it's so wildly off, the manufacturer has to know that they're selling junk. Why put any moly, for instance, in the bottle at all if they already know it's junk product?

Pumped out of the sump of a quickie lube, filtered a little to get the chunks out, put in a bottle and sold to overpriced convenience stores!

I've seen that US economy oil for sale at a dollar general store for 1.95.... there were two bottles on a nearly empty shelf...

At least the bottle is honest if you read the fine print... I rather use jiffy lube oil than have to use one of those.

Considering they use Pennzoil/Quaker State exclusively so would I

You mean aside from the cars driving around with 20 ppm of iron as an additive.

Gah, sorta playing. Not horrible there, but to think they even bothered to add moly?

Some of those "Store Brand" oils, with the exception of the flagged brand, all seem to be good quality oils.

Sometimes, people will get a great bargain by buying some store brand oils......especially when on clearance or sale.

The add packs of some of these store brand oils, not the base stock of the oil, outshine even the national brands. Loads of Boron, Moly for example.....

I wonder who supplies the base stock, blends and bottles these oils.....that is the mystery?

Thank you Tom for posting these results.

^The one on the far left is at QuickTrip stations around the southeast, that I know of. Usually priced at about $3 or so per quart, less than the $5 PYB next to it naturally. It is a convenience store.

I use a lot of that American XT 10w-30 for top-offs each year. Only stopped buying it lately since ST is actually cheaper.
