I would say it's really clean...

My sister have an old idi diesel from 1991 running on semi synthetic since the beginning and except the fact the oil is black it's really clean too.

it has 250 000 kms.

what is your average use of it ?
highway ?
no city ?
stop and go ?

i 'm not a specialist but i would say 5000 miles is a bit short on synthetic.

These engines sometimes spin crank bearings, so I often get nervous about keeping my Sonata for the long haul. I intended to keep it for a long time when I bought it, but it's been a disappointment and not very reliable, so now I'm debating dumping it.

It gives me a little more confidence to see some of the these engines at higher mileage.

Here's how my engine Sonata's engine looked at just over 100k miles:

To the OP:

Was there a reason to pull the valve cover or were you just curious? Some DOHC engines require a valve adjustment periodically.

What are your driving habits like? As long as the car isn't mainly a short tripper, you can probably easily extend it to 7.5K. Very nice looking engine

ive been wondering too how long the car will last im trying to get 300k miles im at 177,000 right now and as far as reliability my car has never been on a tow truck never had any work other than routine matinence.. brakes, oil, tires, struts, plugs.

not really a short tripper, my short trips are like 10 miles r/t suburban driving 45mph light traffic.

Really looks great. Keep it up. I was on a website yesterday with a poster giving the old, "That there Pinnzerl will sledge yer engine rat up in the first 500 miles of use.". He needs to see your pix.
