post your latest transmission lubricant change.

If amsoil wouldn’t tint the fluid red then I’d be all over it from the initial change with my Nissans. If I did have a cvt issue and the dealer drained the fluid they’d instantly stamp it as the wrong fluid, then it would be a fight. Nissan oem is blue but goes golden in 1k so anything close is fine. Pretty much why I’ve never used castrol.
Red Line is golden like motor oil. That was one of the reasons I went with it. I'm out of warranty, but I know sometimes they have some extended warranty coverage for the CVTs, and like you said, if they drained red fluid, no matter what the cause was, they'd try to say I used ATF and that was the issue.

Curious... How do you know your cvt temperatures? I used Honda HC-2 in my '13 and '17 Accords; last year I serviced a friend's '17 Accord with Lubeguard when he got it used. The transmission seemed to really like it.
I have a scanguage 2 that I plug in on trips. I use mine on Nissan but I’m sure that it can be programmed for Honda.

Good to know that. I always thought redline was red like amsoil. You made a good choice on that fluid.

I always discounted this due to what I thought was red in color. Now after reading the specs, I’m extremely intrigued. How much per qt did this cost?

It's expensive at $21/quart I think. I figured the Nissan OEM stuff is the same price, and it isn't even full synthetic. I felt better about it in there compared to the OEM. Given the description on the website, and the pour point at -51C, seems like it has a healthy dose of PAO.

The pao is why I'm interested. Being in northern Ohio, my cvts struggle something awful below 20 degrees. I've slowly switched my rogue back to oem through subsequent D&F and noticed a difference between nissan fluid and enoes eco.

Which one is better?

So far, so good on the Red Line. Good reviews from what I have read too. We get cold weather too but our winter was so extremely mild I didn't get a chance to test it in anything really cold. We also get really hot weather, and I've already driven in 100F weather. No issues there. I thought the formulation (ester and PAO I'm assuming) will help with the heat and decrease oxidation. I'm also maybe at about 70% new fluid given my two drain and fills (first with the filters, second without). Going to do another drain and fill in about 5000 miles and then do it every 10k I think after that. Not sure I'm doing the cartridge filter ever again. Getting that top rear bolt on and off was a nightmare in that cramped space. The filter inside the transmission looked pretty good after ~70,000 miles so maybe if we still have in 70,000 miles I'll do it again haha.

Eneos eco was always fantastic. No issues in the cold and was really good at keeping the cvt insulated sound wise. A dealer in Chicago was selling oem online for $12 per qt so I ordered a case since eneos was getting harder to come by. I just ordered 9 qts of redline from auto zone with a 20% discount. I'll do a couple drain and fills throughout the summer to try and saturate my rogue before winter. My 21 and 24 are low miles and still under warranty so i'll keep using oem until they aren't

4 quart drain and fill with Amsoil Signature Series ATF on my 2006 Sienna with 253k miles. Already noticing improvements in the shifting over the Toyota T-IV ATF. This is my first of a few shorter mileage ATF changes to get mostly the new Amsoil in.

I’m trying Valvoline MaxLife ATF in my 2001 Chevy Silverado with a 4L60. The transmission has 145k miles, it hasn’t towed, and has led an easy life. The oil I’m using 99% hasn’t been changed before. It doesn’t look bad. Anyways, I’m going to replace the fluid 4 quarts at a time as that’s what comes out of the drain plug. I’ll probably do this 4 times.

2015 Chevy Silverado with 164,939 miles on its 6L80E. Used the MityVac to do a drain & fill. I did two fluid changes last May that I'm sure were the first this transmission had ever received as the fluid that came out looked like used engine oil. This time the fluid was darkened some but still had a definite red tint to it.

Out: 5.25 quarts ATF

In: 5 quarts Valvoline Maxlife ATF and 1/2 pint of AC Delco Dex VI

2008 Toyota Corolla A245E 133k mi. A/T capacity is 7.7qts but ran 10qts of Castrol Transmax Import Multi-Vehicle because I lost track how much came out via drain pan and cooler line exchange. Did not drop the pan since the A/T uses a metal strainer.

Out: Old T-IV and Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF mix.
In: Castrol Transmax Import Multi-Vehicle.

Castrol ATF has a sweet smell which is a total contrast from the burnt smell prior to the fluid change.
Had to put a fluid type change label for whoever (me) goes back into the transmission.

2004 Volvo S60 Denso M56 5 speed
Out: HPL 75W Manual Transmission Life
In: same
2.2 quarts

First change since purchase in November 2025. 2.4k OCI to remove metals.

Some black goo and 1-2mm metal slivers on the Votex magnetic drain and fill plugs.

I plan to leave this fluid in for 60,000 miles.

I wish so badly the ZF8 speeds used red ATF... I would 100% be using the Valvoline Restore and Protect in it while under warranty. The green tint handcuffs me.
