post your latest transmission lubricant change.

Maybe do a cooler line exchange now to base line the unit?
Not easy to do on a lot of newer cars. Not all of them have external cooler lines, some require specialized adapters, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion; I tend to stick to spill-and-fill services. But I will take a look for feasibility next time I see the car.
Funny thing is, this transmission uses Mazda FZ fluid, which is not readily available, and can be pricey.

Agree the Mazda FZ fluid is pricy. However it concerns me that it’s coming out dark at 44k after a spill and fill. And from what I’ve read Mazda isn’t known for transmissionmission longevity.

Is there a more cost effective universal fluid?

I looked for an equivalent; I use Aisin FZ which is about $6 on RA but that shipping... C'mon Amazon!
Capacity is about 8 quarts I think, so 3.5 quarts is about half. I will check the fluid in about a month and see how it looks.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Super helpful. I had no idea these adapters were available.

If it were my car, or my grand niece's car, I’d purchase this. I prefer a cooler lone exchange over a drain and fill.

No pressure on you Jeff @JeffKeryk 😉.
Well, @The Critic lives within shouting distance, at least on my cell. If I snivel, he will bail me out. Life's good like that...

When your grand niece gives you a big hug and says: “Thanks Uncle Jeff, you rock!” you will forget about the money.

Just saying…. 😉

2015 Mazda3 iGrand Touring, 124K, 44K OCI
Out and In: 3.5 qts Aisin FZ Blue ATF

I serviced the transmission when I first got the car for my grand niece; this is the 2nd service. Pretty black fluid came out. Maybe service it again in 20K? Shoulda put in a few ounces of Lubeguard Red?
Our CX-9 was pretty dark at 61k miles as well. I did 3 d/f over a couple of weeks and added LG at the end. Was pretty clean after the third! Used Ravenol, may use the Aisin next time.

Maybe another in a few hundred miles? That's what I did with our Nissan CVT. Fluid didn't look too bad, but I learned that the OEM fluid isn't even fully synthetic. Switched it to Redline and did two drain and fills (one with a filter change too).

Castrol Transmax has pretty good reviews when I was researching different fluids for the CVT. It has the Mazda FZ approval too.

60K 2015 Honda Accord. Took it to Honda, used Honda CVT fluid. I keep my Honda stuff Honda fluids and stay on top of the CVT.

I do a D&F every oil change, which is usually around 10k by the time I get around to it.
I'm considering this on the Nissan CVT too. It's the weak point, and it's dead easy. About as easy as an oil change, except you have to fill it through the dipstick tube which is pretty small. I'm at least going to do 10k drain and fills on it.

I do it simply because way back people had talked about doing a 3X drain at fill at whatever interval. I figured I'd just do one every 10k and call it good. Roughly the same thing as doing a 3X at 30K. It's so easy on these cars you might as well do it while you're under there.

That was exactly my thought. Instead of doing it three times every 30k, why not once every 10k? I wish I could get more out. With the drain and fill, I get about 3.25 qt out of about 8 total. But with the Red Line I feel a little more comfortable.

Curious... How does the fluid look? I generally do a spill-and-fill at 25K-30K intervals and the fluid looks great.

Clean, red, very very little on the magnet.

Usually stays that way until around ~100k when the bearings frag. There's really not much helping the MAYA/BAYA transmission, I just change the fluid out of habit more than anything.

I do a double the 1st cvt change on all my new cars with the D&F being separated by 1k miles. Then I do all my cvts every spring regardless of miles. My 2018 has 121k and I just did a spill and fill along with the pan filter and the fluid was still crystal clear. They tuned the newer cvts to run hotter to burn off condensation, so my wife’s 24 got its 1st service at 20k and it was black. When I get back from Florida I’m going to do at least 1 more, maybe 2. Filters are done whenever I get around to it, clean fluid is far more important imo.

Drained and refilled the neon then replaced the filter. The magnet had a gray paste or residue stuck to it. Hopefully this will fix or help with the.rough shifting.
