2023 Honda odyssey, 29,9xx miles

Drained and filled 10 speed auto. Honda ATF 2.0. Fluid coming out wasn’t very dirty at all.

With these dipstick-less trans, I’ve lately just carefully measured what I took out and replace it, but with Hondas transmission reputation and the fact that I’ve had a few weird downshifts and transmission behaviors bother me from time to time, I decided to check fluid level.

I drained only 4 quarts exactly out. Everyone online claims they get 4.5 quarts out. I had already eyeballed level of the van on stands, but I checked it with a 4 ft level as well, it was spot on. I filled 4 quarts since that’s what i drained and it wouldn’t reach the level check hole after warmed up and ran through its gears. Another 0.6 quarts went in and cycled again, checked, and a healthy trickle now came out.

4.5 seems to be the right amount, maybe mine was a little under filled from the factory. I doubt that 0.5 quart is making a noticeable difference in its performance, but at least I feel better it’s fresh and filled properly.

Hey snwrbrdr12, I'm not knocking you're Ody tranny, but is it that German tranny Honda was using for a few years, then switched backed to CVT after they all failed ????.....Just curious....I wonder if they went back to the drawing board on that German tranny, and are stickin them back in again....Honda screwed up so bad. My 13' CRV has the old school Honda tranny, and it now has something like 535,000 miles on it. Do a spill and fill, ( 3qts), every 25k. AND it actually has a real dipstick where you pour the new fluid into !!!!!!. Start it up, cycle the gears, wait for the fans to kick on, while running pull the stick to check level. Easy Peasy. IF it is a " newer" version of that German tranny, I wish you the best of luck with it.....but...it shouldn't be acting up at a lousy 29k. Friggin Honda. Not what they used to be. They turned into the 1986 Hyundai's. Real P.O.S.

The ‘23 doesn’t have the ZF transmission seemingly riddled with issues. It does have some odd spec transmission fluid Honda doesn’t like to release metrics for so we can go to good aftermarket options (HPL). Also, it’s not a cvt transmission. HTH

Lastly, yes - the level check for the fluid imo is a pia compared to a dipstick. But here we are.

It’s a 10 speed I think it’s Honda made. They aren’t known to be problematic even in guys hopped up 2.0turbo accords. I think it’s more of a programming / software / logic issue but I still like to maintain my stuff well and was interested in the fluid condition and fluid level once I didn’t drain as much as I expected. Checking fluid level and filling it really isn’t that hard, but it’s more work than a dipstick for sure.
