How'd the old fluid look?Vac sucked just under 3 qts out of the Altima today and refilled with the same amount of Aisin NS-3 fluid (blue color). Mileage just over 50k.
I've done this 3x already and everytime I suction out fluid, it is darkened with sediment. How'd the old fluid look?
That's some clean looking fluid coming out! Well done.View attachment 280188View attachment 280189View attachment 280190
2015 Accord Hybrid - nearly 100k.
Why aren't all transmissions that easy to service? Spill-and-fill for the win!2015 Accord Hybrid - nearly 100k.
Never understood why most ATs are so messy to change. Why couldn’t they have done better like 65 years ago?!?Why aren't all transmissions that easy to service? Spill-and-fill for the win!
And one size oil filter... Just being logical again!
I love Hondas.
You may have just realised what so many have failed to.Never understood why most ATs are so messy to change. Why couldn’t they have done better like 65 years ago?!?
The issue with the Hondas is that there is no pan, so no place to contain wear materials.
A clean drain, spin on filter, and droppable pan, with a straightforward means of refill would be the best of all worlds. Too much to ask apparently.
Yeah, the first time you pull the pan, even at low miles, it's a bit of a horror show. Well done keeping her clean and rebuilding to solve the issue.2017 Explorer with the 2.3 EB and 6F35 transmission. This transmission was rebuilt in 8-2024 locally. Failure was do to the poor quality parts Ford decided to use in the 2016-2019 version of this transmission, specially the torque convertor. I posted my saga here back in Sept 2024 with the many drain and fills I did. Today I cold drained 4.5 qts of Ford Mercon LV the re-builder used and replaced it with the same. The Mercon LV was a dark red but had no particles in it and the magnet was totally clean. The mileage was at 6853 on the fluid. I drained the original factory fill in 2017 at 10,000 miles and it was black with lots of silver looking particles in it. And the magnet was loaded with metal. What a difference between the first fluid change with the rebuilt transmission and the factory fluid, so much better with the rebuilt transmission. I understand Ford Mercon LV darkens considerably more than other ATF's but doesn't indicate that it's not usable.
