post your latest transmission lubricant change.

Wow, I was super nervous I’d screw something up so I psyched myself out of doing it myself especially with the extended warranty lol

I think it had about 75k when I did it last fall. I’ll do it again at about 125k and just do it myself. There’s enough info and videos out there.
Yes, I watched several videos and have now done it twice …
Lots of places sell the little spray bottles and with the tip removed they transfer ATF at a decent rate …

It was $889 for everything, I had to go dig out the receipt.

The filters and fluid aren’t that expensive anymore or atleast what they were a few years ago. I know there’s a couple of Mopar stores listing them for high prices still online though which is ridiculous. I remember pricing it a few years ago for my 2015 Ram I had and it was about what you said then.

The Mopar filter from the dealer for the Jeeps ZF 8H50 was $253 through them. It takes about 6 quarts I think for just a pan drop. The Mopar fluid through the dealer was $23 a quart. Privately is even cheaper you can get a 6 quart case for less than $100 now on Amazon. They charged me $200 in labor. Which is not quite 2 hours since they charge me $125 a labor hour. The exhaust doesn’t have to be moved in the Jeep so the labor isn’t as extensive I guess.

They charged me $60 for the transfer case (which is still ATF +4) and $180 for both axle fluid drain and fills (which oddly enough it takes the same fluid for front and rear). Those prices include the fluid and labor.

Now I know the filter for my 2021 Ram is going to be more expensive. The ZF 8H75’s filter is considerably more expensive and the labor is a bit more. But I’ve got a couple more years before it’ll be due.
You were correct on the filter - needed to grab the VIN from a 21 GC for sale to look up the correct number.

It still feels awfully cheap, maybe I'm just used to seeing CA prices. List for the parts is $548.10 + tax and folks are getting >$200/hr here, even for maintenance.

I don’t doubt it. Even where I live in SE Ohio near the WV/KY border it can vary wildly. In the rural area I’m in the small dealers have to compete with small shops so they have to be reasonable on their prices. Drive an hour to the large cities of the area and prices are considerably more. The price I was quoted by a larger dealer in the city was about $100 more for the same work.

A bit more detail here as I should have put more in my original post.

It used a bit more than 3 qts to set the final level. I did a 2x drain fill - so drain, fill, idle/shift to R/D, drain, drop pan, replace filter, replace pan, replace stand pipe, fill, get to ~100 deg F, drop drain plug, let it drain until it was not a steady stream, done. Pan required some prying to get off. Gasket was no issue, just peels off/easy to replace. Filter came with the o-ring; in the video he says it doesn't, mine did. Followed this procedure/no issues. Trans shifts v. smoothly again. Old fluid didn't look terrible, not burnt smelling, still retained some redish color. So I used 2x4qt Maxlife bottles for all of this and probably threw out a few of those qts in the overflow/set level method.

It doesn't look like too bad of a job. I'll probably get the kit and pump from Blauparts.

Took a break from suspension work and did a transmission service on the 4R44E in my son's Ranger.

Sucked the fluid out with a vacuum extractor, dropped the pan, cleaned, replaced the filter and refilled with 4.5 ish quarts of Valvoline Dex/Merc. This transmission was supposedly rebuilt at one point and I saw evidence that indicates this might be true, like a bit of over sprayed silver paint on the range selector lever. The fluid didn't look or smell bad, just a dark red.

Ordered enough Tec 1800 fluid for two drop and fills on 18 BMW 530e (8 speed zf) with 116kiles on it. Been trying to get this done for a while time to get it done this weekend. Will be doing all other fluids as well.

Drain and fill/new filter. 4.7qts Maxlife ATF, Hastings filter and gasket

No prior issues, fluid was a nice red when drained. Just taking care of maintenance
Those cars are tanks!!!! I have great memories of riding in a marquis, etc. I Love those rigs.

just did a trans fluid change on the 2012 pilot. This is the 4th aisin DW1 fluid change and have had nothing but success so far. When i got the car with 123 or 128k, it'd had 3x d&f over it's lifetime, the first with honda DW1 and the following 2 with wolfs head at 45k and 75k i believe. When I first got it, a 2x D&F with maxlife (had a bunch sitting around) followed by a 3x D&F with the aisin + LG red was within the first 2k for a full reset. VCM was also muzzled and shifting significantly improved in the time since.

About 20k on this fluid (at 150k now), looks a bit darker than I'd love to see but no indication of actual degradation. Im assuming it is the dye breaking down. The magnet also only had a very light layer of material on it so continuing on as is. Will likely keep the 20k changes in the future.

For those honda folks out there, instead of going all the way to the back to get to that buried fill plug, i took some vinyl tubing, stretched it over the dipstick tube and then around a small adapter that came with a walmart hypertough transmission spout. The hose that comes with the spout conveniently fits directly on the end of my long funnel with no spillage.

3.7 quarts out (at operating temp)
3.4 room temp quarts in

2 in 2 days and 1 more to go. This time i was helping my colleague with her 2019 altima with 80k miles. Performed a drain and fill, along with pan drop and both filters changed. While the service history is unknown, based on the condition of the magnets, I would guess someone has been in there before. Fluid definitely looked like it could use some refreshing though. The drain and fill process is very easy on these as they have a fill plug at engine level, then the standard level plug procedure. The external filter not as much.

Filter was very metallic colored coming out vs the beck arnley red going in. That upper left bolt on the filter housing is a real PIA.
As you can see the fluid was a far cry from the NS3 blue
Filled with Aisin NS3 variant
3.7 quarts out, 4.3 in with some leveling.

day 3 of 3 on my fluid service streak. Today my mother drove her 2020 tundra with 50k on the odometer up for trans, diff, brake fluid and both cabin+engine air filters serviced. Her quote from the local shop for all these services was close to $900 whereas I got it done for around $170. My gear oil choice was heavily influenced by what I could find at my local Walmart a couple days ago but I plan on upgrading her to Amsoil 75w110 in the near future. She tows a light 2 horse trailer once a week across town and then across the state once a month so any added protection would be nice.

The differential couldn't be any easier than Toyota made it. 24mm drain plug and 24mm fill/level plug. Out was presumable factory fill and in went ST 75W90 synthetic.

Transmission was standard Toyota sealed D&F. About 3.5 quarts out and 4 in with some leveling. Leveled at 110 deg F this time with a positive report for operating temp and shifting on her 3hr drive home. While heavily subscribed to the church of Aisin synthetic transmission fluids, my friend whose GS350 we changed the ATF in had ordered toyota WS to my house but it had not come in on time. This left me with 8 qts of OEM fluid so I figured I might as well use it.

Neither fluid indicated anything alarming in my eyes. While the gear oil was darkened, likely from break in and the last 20k of on/off towing, the magnet didn't have much build up. Aligned with previous reports, the factory WS was darkened and had an almost purple tint to it, but no clutch/burnt material on a rag and still some red to it. Standard usage and wear it would appear.

2017 Ford Escape

Ran 16 quarts (4 drain and fills) of Pennzoil LV ATF through it. Added a tube of Lubegard Shudder Fix and a bottle of Lubegard Red.

Had Ford dealer replace 10 quarts of Mercon LV 3 years and 35K KM ago. Started shuddering and shifting weird recently. That Ford Mercon LV isn't the greatest. Will see how long the Pennzoil with Lubgard lasts.

Drives like a new car now!

Sister in laws 2018 RAV4:

Out- presumably FF
In- Maxlife, 5oz LG Platinum

Doing a slow approach on this one. Did two different drain and fills: yielding 2.6 quarts and 2.3 quarts respectively. Only did two at this time as the fluid was very dark.

How's it feel on the MaxLife? Probably fine, I imagine.
