post your latest transmission lubricant change.

2019 F150, 3.5EB 10R80
Factory fill out, 86,200 miles (a lot longer than I planned)

Took sample to send to WearCheck, should get results next week. Color not pretty, but no chunks and very little grit on factory magnet (pics below), fluid itself was not glittery at all. Just a hint on the bottom of the pan, no sludgy stuff or anything like that.

Of note though; at even just 82* fluid temp, this is the thinnest fluid I’ve ever personally seen… it’s visually about half as viscous as 20 grade! 😱

Nice. Are there aftermarket pans for the 10r80 to increase sump capacity & ease drainage like there is for the 6r80? Haven’t looked so just curious. Also, does the 10r use the same minuscule dipstick by the passenger side cat?

Yes to both.. wait til this afternoon for my write up on the deep PPE 10R80 pan.

I’m convinced Ford told their engineers to design a dipstick to guarantee their dealers would get 95% of all trans flush/service requests from new or under warranty owners. Never seen anything so dumb!

My 20yo Subaru not only has a dipstick & drain plug from the factory, it even has a dipstick/ fill port in the center differential you can reach from the engine bay!

Agreed. I used a welding glove to check level on my FIL ‘13 F150. He had taken it to an Indy shop for a trans service & they turned him away & told him it was a dealer only item. I called bs but didn’t like doing that job lol.

Yeah, and I’m too cheap to fork out $250 for either the B&M or the custom aftermarket dipstick… with a flexible tube. For that kind of money you should be able to do a custom-bent piece of tubing with a nut that matches the threads of the cap.

Good news is though, even after 86k my trans was exactly at the top of the “B” mark, right where it’s supposed to be. No leaks or weeps anywhere.

2013 Land Rover Defender w/ Getrag MT-82. 180,000 km. Bought the car a few months ago so catching up on fluids.

Out: not sure, it was red, so hopefully Redline MT-90 and not ATF…
In: Castrol BOT 328, the OEM unicorn tears for these boxes. Had to import from England. Oil was made in Germany.

05 Chevy Express 6.0L/4l80e 113k

Out: 6 quarts of Dex VI Maxlife etc

In: 5 qts of O’Reilly Dex VI, 1.5 qt of Maxlife and bottle of Lubeguard. Hardest trans to fill. No idea how this thing shifts as well as it does. Guess its a testament to what frequent fluid changed will do. Even the cd4e shifts perfectly at 190k.

2001 Toyota Rav4 drain and fill, 3.5 qts Castrol import Transmax, 20 ounces Lubegard red. This vehicle has 307,000+ miles. Vehicle has a harsh shift going 2nd to 3rd, all other shifts are fine. I figure an original transmission with this high of miles owes me nothing at this point so I'm experimenting with a few drain and fills and additives. Previous owner told me they've driven it with the harsh shift for many years.

2016 Kia Sorento 3.3L V6, 112,762 miles
Out: 3.25L factory ATF (believed, though service records are sketchy)
In: 3.25L Maxlife

I did a drain-and-fill of the transmission fluid in my girlfriend’s Sorento this afternoon. With 112k miles on the odometer I wasn’t expecting good things, but I was pleasantly surprised; the color and smell were better than my Golf’s ATF at 71k miles. Granted, this SUV hasn’t been driven quite as aggressively as my Golf. I sent a sample in for analysis, and I’ll be sure to post here when I get the results!

We plan on getting a camper to tow next spring, so I wanted to be sure that there was fresh fluid to account for the extra stress on the transmission. I’ll probably do one more drain-and-fill over the winter.

2015 Odyssey EX-L, 194K, 30K OCI
Had a little time with my niece's Oddy; MityVac'ed out 2.7 qts ATF and replaced with DW-1 and Aisin DW-1 equivalent.
Fluid looked fine, not dark at all. The red color goes away.
I will probably pull the drain plug next oil change. Usually get 3+ quarts out. Trans shifts nice and smooth and pulls well.

My son's 2012 Silverado 5,3 with six speed. The dipstick tube was broken off above the piece that attaches to back of engine, so he had no dipstick for the year that he's owned the truck. This was only discovered 2 weeks ago.

Replaced the tube, dipstick, and did the trans filter with 6 litres of Valvoline full synthetic Dexron VI. This took me 5 hours. The lowering of the transmission to get the new tube installed was the most challenging part of the work. Could not get the pan fully removed but got enough access to remove the old filter, magnet and all put back together. Magnet was not horrid and old filter didn't appear plugged up.
He says it shifts nicer, but old fluid didn't smell that bad at all. Not the most fun job, but glad it's done.

2013 GS350 F Sport, 6 speed trans, 110K, 30K miles since pan drop and filter service.
Per @The Critic advice, I reluctantly chose a fluid exchange instead of a (2.5 qt) spill and fill.

Toy/Lex shop did the exchange. I brought in 7 qts Idemitsu WS equivalent and they added 4 more WS. So 11 qt exchange...
Only $160 labor and $17.50 per qt for their fluid. $241 all in; I tried to give them a tip for pizza lunch, but they would not take it.
Car pulls maybe just a taste better; shifts like buttah. Placebo effect for the win!

Glad to get it done. The '13 GS350 F Sport is a great car. I was gonna do the work, but at 71 my days of bench pressing Turbo 400s into Pontiacs is over. I always wanted a lift; that would make the job a snap. IMO, the Toyota trans service procedure is overly difficult; there should be a dipstick. And "lifetime fluid"? Please.

2022 Ford Transit Connect XLT 2.5 L

Total Miles: 40,003
Miles on this D&F: 20,003

Out: Some OE ULV & Some Valvoline ULV with Red LubeGard
In: Valvoline ULV with Red LubeGard (6 qts which is overfull; let it run to temp then set level per the manual)

Oil sample sent to BS just because I'm very curious.

2024 Silverado 2500 6.6l gas w/ Allison 10L1000 transmission
