Post your latest parts purchase

Mom is coming out this weekend and texted me asking if we could finally do something about the headlights on her 2009 Mazda6. Ive been battling bad pigtails and water intrusion in both assemblies, all in an effort to avoid buying $700 complete units.

Anyway, I did some more digging to see if I could figure out why the 09-10 assemblies are $700+ per pair when the 11-13 assemblies looked identical in the pictures yet only cost $280 per pair. Turns out, all Mazda changed was the high beam bulb type, it went from an H11 to a 9005. Everything else is the same, right down to the main connector. Well shoot, I can handle that!

Ordered up a pair of 2011+ headlight assemblies, a pair of Philips Xtreme Vision Pro 150's for the low beams, a cheapo set of 65w 9005 high beams, a pair of 9005 pigtails and two new caps with o-rings to seal the low's. Came to a $350 for everything, and I shouldn't have to deal with it ever again.

Tried to get Sachs front struts for an '05 Outback. RA had the right, but no left. I divined the part # by going up 1 and down 1 (it was down 1) and found it on ebay.

The ebay seller (12k+ fbs at 99.1%) then said they were mistaken and didn't actually have it.

I searched the interweb further with zero success, so I ordered a Gabriel for the left front. I actually chose the Gabriel Ultra over a KYB. Not sure if this was a good move but these days I suspect Gabriel is no worse than KYB.

The Gabriel was actually ~$7 more expensive than KYB, so I wasn't price shopping -- just don't trust KYB anymore

Miscellaneous parts for the LS430. Gotta look for stuff to do, even though nothing really needs fixing.

From Lexus of Pleasanton:

Non-factory clips and hardware store fasteners bug the crap out of me. It's like looking at a custom and you see hardware store nut and bolts.

From RA:

There's a K&N sticker on the air cleaner. I don't know if it's still in there but if it is, it needs to go. Not too concerned about the cabin filter but it doesn't hurt to have one. Only a few of the LS400 parts I already have are shared with the LS430. :( Fluids? (y)

Picked up a new EGR valve for the Caddy from RA. I'm still chasing an occasional rough idle when warm and the old EGR valve looked... Questionable.

$19 on closeout was a no-brainer. I was pleased to see "Made in USA", looks like it had a manufacturing date of April '06. I'll probably get the ambition to swap it out later today and take her for a cruise to see if anything changed.

2 of the newest ACD PF64 oil filters from the AC Delco Store on Amazon...have the newer style single metal baseplate that looks cheaper than the older versions but this is the same filter GM and ACD specs for the newest Corvette...

Amazon was the least expensive price for these filters but I noted that the next day, Walmart lowered their price to match Amazon...these prices were about $5 less than purchasing from my preferred RockAuto.com when you roll in shipping costs...

Bought these new parts for mom’s car Tuesday. Normally I’d never buy OEM spark plugs because they are nothing special but when I can get them cheaper than any other brand with my employee discount I will buy them. $10 each then both the filters $30 total. So $70 in parts not too bad. It also needs rear brakes too but not buying Toyota ones since they are cheap and don’t include the hardware or shims. So most likely will have my parts guy get them from either Napa or AutoZone.

New rear brake pads for moms 2017 Camry. I never buy factory Toyota pads due to not including hardware or shims. You can get a quality set of aftermarket pads like these with hardware and shims for the same price or lower as you pay for the no hardware no shim Toyota pads. In my opinion these are some of the best aftermarket pads there are. They are on the front of the car now and they are what’s on my sisters van too on the front and back. They definitely live up to their name of being silent. I like these and if these aren’t available I go for Duralast Elite at AutoZone. These are still cheaper than the Toyota pads even with my employee discount. For these pads it was $45. Toyota pads with a hardware and shim kit would have been $80 for me no way that was happening. These are the pads I’m going to stick with for all things now. My dad doesn’t believe in replacing rotors till they start to vibrate and he doesn’t believe in machining them either so his car his money well technically moms car but you know how that goes lol. 80,000 miles on original pads aren’t bad though.

For those wondering I’ve been extremely happy with Napa SilentGuard pads on everything. I’ve even installed them on customer cars when we run out of factory pads too. I highly recommend them.

I fear my ball joints are bad again on the Accnet. But maybe not. I do know I need an alignment and the ball joints are easy to change being bolted in. The last time I had them out I had a hard time threading in the bolts. They are a fine thread. So I got 4 new OE ones and I'll figure out the thread pitch to get a bottom tap for the knuckle. So I'm ready when they tell me I need new ball joints.

OE ball joints are around $140 each

ebay for twice the dealer but free shipping at $4.25 ea for the bolts.

I had over $50 in gift cards for O'Reilly so I picked up misc that I usually wouldn't buy there because their prices on chemicals are high. But rewards money feels like found money.

Found yet another box of the not-so-great clearance gloves at $2.37. These are good for short use, which is how I always use them anyway (I have to pee way too often!!)

For the 911

9 qts dt40 5w40 @driven’s 25% off sale (will sit in garage for a year b/c just did my oil change).
3 qts mobilube ptx for the transaxle (oem fluid)
6 napa gold 1348 from fleet filter made in USofA
1 oem brake reservoir cap
1 oem rear wiper arm cover
1 h7 agm battery made in Germany (for Walmart)

Serpentine belt and radiator hoses for the Tundra. 210K and 23 years is enough.
Make sure you get OEM parts. The OEM belt is a Toyota labeled Dayco but wanted the Mitsuboshi belt used in the Lexus UZ V8's. Not gonna pay Lexus prices.

Sister needs new brakes on her 2015 Honda Odyssey. Napa was out of the SilentGuard pads for the rear so I went with my second choice Duralast Elite pads for the front and rear. No mismatch pads if replaced at the same time lol. Duralast Gold rotors. STP oil filter and Toyota oil cause it’s cheap. This is the third set of brakes since 2022 because they drive it everywhere as it’s their only car and also they are hard on brakes and do tons of mountain travel too. My dealership now owns a Honda dealership but I don’t see a reason to buy OEM brake parts or anything like that. Plus my sister doesn’t have much money so I want the best but affordable parts for her. She picked these out on my recommendation since couldn’t get the Napa ones.
