Post your latest oil or filter purchase

Just so I can be a cool kid 🤪.

Normally I don’t stock up on oil or filters and just get some as I need them. I made an exception yesterday. I already had 1 change for the vibe and one change for the Venza and QX60 and .5 for the truck. I now have enough for a little over 2 years. If it was ammo I’d be embarrassed by how little I have but I have enough of that and reloading supplies.

1 Havoline 5W30
2 Fram 0w20 (clearance at AA)
8 CQ Premium filters for QX60 Vibe and Truck

The Modelo Oro was 9.99/12 pack and grabbed it to try. It’s not good unless you toss some lime in it.

Broke down on my no stash yesterday and bought the Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 w/Carquest Extended Performance filter bundle for SD's Honda Accord. $41.25, so actually not a bad price for both. She informed me that she's had to top it off the last two OCIs. She could have told me that before and we'd be into the second change of Valvoline. Oh well. I promised her mom I'd take care of her like my own, so....
I also purchased a Honda PCV valve and will wait for her to tell me the little wrench has lit up.

Which application takes Modelo?

My camper. Getting dewinterized today. Been busy with grad parties and my daughter’s party is next weekend. After that it’s her friend group coming up to the cabin to tent camp and have a fire so the camper has to be ready to go, which it will be.

I cross matched my Kohler lawn mower engine oil filter and found a Motorcraft replacement. Fits perfectly...this engine eats a LOT of dirt and grass clippings, so I suspect the filter works hard. Cut open the old one and it had some metal shavings in it, but the mower was new last year so its probably just break in.

I went with the Motorcraft because I like the bypass mounted at the baseplate, rather than the bottom of the filter. I tend to find a lot of carbon and trash in the bottom of the filter and I would not want that oil to be the source of bypass lube. I am speculating it would be better up near the base. Maybe I'm wrong.

Depends on how much junky black glue that can come off in service is smeared on the end cap right next to the base end bypass valve.

That’s fair. I’ve seen the pics. I cut open 3 FL500s filters after use and found none of the glue issues and they were properly adhered to the endcaps…but I agree about the excess glue issues.

I won't use Motorcraft or any other Purolator filter on my Kohler engine. My three choices are NAPA Gold 1348, Microgard Select MSL51348, or Carquest Premium 85348.

It's luck of the draw, but the black glue that sheds is still being used on Motorcraft filters. I stopped using them for that reason.

I had my doubts the Ford dealer we bought the QX60 from actually changed the oil because of how much it smelled like gas but they did change it because it had a Motorcraft filter on it. Infiniti dealer is next door but they used a Ford filter at cost instead. 700 milled on the oil change and I dumped it.

I’m using the Fram oil I just bought until November or 5000 miles and then I’ll put Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 in it for the winter.

When the borescope shows up I’ll go probing inside the engine as much as I can looking for varnish and sticky stuff. Just looking through the filler cap it’s nice a shiny new looking but that doesn’t show the whole story.

Decided to join the party. I’ll be running these in my daughter’s Santa Fe. No issues with consumption at 90k miles but figured I’d run 4 OCIs and then start using the edge euro from the Walmart bonanza.

At least that’s the current plan. It’ll probably change a dozen times by the time I get through the Valvoline Restore and Protect. Lol

Also, I love Walmart+. Ordered these this morning and delivered this afternoon.

Hit up a local HD and picked up 8ea 5 Quart jugs of the Pennzoil High Mileage Full Synthetic 0W-20 @ 6.53 each. While there they had about 1/4th of the WIX filters on clearance and I also picked up 5ea WIX 51334 (Made in South Korea) oil filters for @ 3.80 each that will fit my Hyundai Elantra.

Tried to stack my 10% Veteran discount but it would not take. Not complaining though.

Picked up a Hyundai/Kia 26300 35505 oil filter to stash in the trunk for my next VRP oil change at Walmart.

After checking GPM and pressure-relief valve ratings, I also picked up an STP S2808 filter at AutoZone. The STP filter looks like a near-exact copy of the Hyundai/Kia; the two filters even weigh within 1 gram of each other.
