Post your latest oil filter change

Since the price of filters has more than doubled in the past few years, I’m leaving my filters on for 20,000 kms.
A couple of weeks ago I changed only the filter on a deleted Duramax LML and topped up the oil a litre.
Come November, I’ll drain the oil and leave the filter on for another six months.
As fillers age in use, and that goes for air and fuel filters too, some say that they perform better than new filters.

That’s true for air filters but not true for oil filters. They filter worse as they load up.

Maybe not for air filters in BC. I changed the air filter on my daughter’s Duramax L5P in January and I found that Charley the pack rat had built a nest in it with pine cones and dog food for snacks.
The only way in there is through the hood scoop.

Both my car and my wife's car use the same cartridge filter.

Over the last couple of weeks I removed two PL38165 filters and replaced them with the same.

I bought 16 filters on clearance for ~$4/ea a couple of years ago. SO far they seem great.

I’ve been using a lot of Fram Ultra Synthetics in family/friend cars I change the oil for. Mustang gets a pretty steady diet of Purolator Boss.

2021 Elantra
Out/In - STP S45028

The standard STP for this car is less than $6 which is a great price. It comes with a new crush washer and the plastic drain plug for the oil filter housing. Every other filter is usually double that price or more. For 5k OCI’s they can’t be beat.

I’d stockpile these up before prices go up on them.

As i posted on the oil change post, changed the break in oil in my brother's Mazda CX50 Hybrid at 480km..

Out: TGMO 0W16 and factory 90915-10009 loaded with chunks of Toyota break in debris...

In: Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20 and a sightly longer OE 90815-10010.

Look at that crap..

Somehow, i expected less debris as it's a A25A-FXS not the Tundra's V35A.. Glad it's out of the engine anyway..

Nice photos. What filter went back on? Maybe I missed that part. Thank You for good pics too

I went with a factory 2022+ Tundra filter. P/N 90915-10010 wich is the longer version of the factory 90915-10009.

Edit: The Mazda CX50 Hybrid is the prettier, more fun to drive, half brother of the RAV4 Hybrid. Has the Mazda soul and caracter with the beating heart of a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. I work for Toyota so i can have all the maintenance parts for dirt cheap.. win win!
