I had a 2008 tC that burned about a quart every 2,500 miles. That's funny about the contradictory information about oil grades. I don't remember that being in my manual, but it's been a long time since I had it. I'm pretty sure my oil cap just said 0W-20, and that's what I always used. I wish I had Valvoline Restore and Protect back then, it would've been fun to see if it curbed the consumption before I sold it. I regret selling that car -- I don't think I gave it enough of a chance. The kid I sold it to ended up trashing it and blowing the engine a few years later. Saw it for sale again for essentially scrap value. It was near mint when I practically gave it away with how cheap I sold it.New-to-me 2007 Scion tC. It was two quarts low when purchased. Topped off with clearance Fram 0W-20.
Changed the oil yesterday with Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 and an oversize Purolator LX3600. Both the oil filter and drain plug were extremely hard to remove from the vehicle, some quick-lube place undoubtedly over torqued those. Also threw on a Gold Plug magnetic drain plug.
The owner's manual is amusing, with contradictory and confusing wording about oil selection, repeating the same recommendation for different grades on the same page:

I did NOT know this. Thanks. The Vibe uses a Toyota engine (not that GM vehicles can’t get over 300k but I thought I should mention this)
Why the "Hybrid" oil? That's not a hybrid is it?In: Valvoline Full Synthetic Hybrid 0W-20, Carquest Premium 95146
Ouch on the engine recall. Please let us know what Nissan does. I’m not sure if there is a fix for what appears to be a design defect on these variable compression engines.2024 Nissan Rogue SV AWD 1.5L I3 VC-Turbo, 18,000km (just received recall for grenading engine - going in tomorrow for inspection)

That’s the latest advance auto score for many members, myself included. I have no evidence that it’s good outside of it made my wife’s car smooth as silk. Some sort of technology makes it good for hybrids but at its core it’s regular old oil.Why the "Hybrid" oil? That's not a hybrid is it?
Advance Auto is clearancing it out. $19.99 for a 5 quart jug, $6 ish for a quart. Consensus here seemed to be that it's a very good oil with very dumb marketing. Why the "Hybrid" oil? That's not a hybrid is it?
I don’t know why you would without a used oil analysis first? I’m sure these OCI’s are within the manufacturer recommendations.2008 Smart ForTwo 79,437 Miles
