2024 Nissan Rogue SV AWD 1.5L I3 VC-Turbo, 18,000km (just received recall for grenading engine - going in tomorrow for inspection)
Out: Dealer Oil, OEM filter
In: Kirkland Full Synth 0W20, Champ PH2867

2011 Toyota RAV4 AWD 2.5L 2AR-FE, 30,000km
Out: Pennzoil Platinum 0W20, Promotive 9972 filter
In: Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W30 (bye-bye 20 weight oil in this vehicle), Motomaster OE filter MCH9972

New-to-me 2007 Scion tC. It was two quarts low when purchased. Topped off with clearance Fram 0W-20.

Changed the oil yesterday with Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 and an oversize Purolator LX3600. Both the oil filter and drain plug were extremely hard to remove from the vehicle, some quick-lube place undoubtedly over torqued those. Also threw on a Gold Plug magnetic drain plug.

The owner's manual is amusing, with contradictory and confusing wording about oil selection, repeating the same recommendation for different grades on the same page:

I had a 2008 tC that burned about a quart every 2,500 miles. That's funny about the contradictory information about oil grades. I don't remember that being in my manual, but it's been a long time since I had it. I'm pretty sure my oil cap just said 0W-20, and that's what I always used. I wish I had Valvoline Restore and Protect back then, it would've been fun to see if it curbed the consumption before I sold it. I regret selling that car -- I don't think I gave it enough of a chance. The kid I sold it to ended up trashing it and blowing the engine a few years later. Saw it for sale again for essentially scrap value. It was near mint when I practically gave it away with how cheap I sold it.

Edit: I think I did experiment with 5W-30 in it and I think the consumption was considerably less, but I don't remember 100%.

2021 Kia Seltos 2.0L Nu PFI engine with 84,000 miles on it. In & Out is same (Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W30) and usually a CarQuest Premium oil filter with a 4,500 mile / 6 month OCI. I did use a new Fram Endurance oil filter this OCI (last one in the stash) . This makes the 4th straight oil change with Valvoline Restore and Protect trying to clean up the rings and reduce oil consumption . Towards the middle of the 3rd OCI oil consumption was starting to trend downwards , so we will see.

2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer 1.3L
61,810 miles, 5,610 on oil. Monitor showed 25% remaining.

Out: Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0W-20, Fram Ultra Synthetic XG12447
In: Valvoline Full Synthetic Hybrid 0W-20, Carquest Premium 95146

And an air filter. I also had to yank off the shifter surround and fiddle with the sensor that tells the car when its in park since it's been refusing to let my key go. Dealer wants $200 just to look at the thing, even though it's a common problem

Ouch on the engine recall. Please let us know what Nissan does. I’m not sure if there is a fix for what appears to be a design defect on these variable compression engines.

2018 Honda CRV 1.5
51331 miles on engine
1538 miles on oil

This engine is such a fuel diluter that I've started doing a winter oil change (since fuel dilution is worst in winter, try to isolate the worst fuel dilution during winter months).
Oil was run from 11/23/25 to 4/19/26 (coldest weather in this area).
Car is only driven 4000-5000 miles per year.

Drained: Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w-30 3.5 qts
Oil filter: Amsoil (stayed on since it only had 1538 miles on it)
Replaced with 3.5qts of Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w-30

Oil sample was sent off to Oil Analyzers with the expectation that it will come back with >5% fuel dilution.

Will share UOA once it arrives.

2008 Smart ForTwo 79,437 Miles

Out: Mobil 1 0w-40 and Smart (MANN) filter
OCI: 7,680 Miles / 22 Months
In: Same combo

2006 BMW 325ci 93,176 Miles

Out: Mobil 1 0w-40 and a MANN HU925 / 4X
OCI: 9,755 Miles / 22 Months
In: Same combo

I will be shortening the OCI on theses!
I don’t know why you would without a used oil analysis first? I’m sure these OCI’s are within the manufacturer recommendations.
