2013 Toyota Camry SE (2.4 liter, 4 cylinder),
90,110 miles total,
4,697 mile OCI
Out: 0w-20 Pennzoil Platinum, unknown oil filter, too many foot-lbs of torque to count
In: 0w-20 Valvoline Restore and Protect, PurolatorBOSS oil filter, Votex magnetic drain plug + Votex crush washer
My wife bought this Camry new and uses it as a daily commuter, about 90% interstate driving. No issues with the vehicle, it's been a reliable workhorse. No measurable oil consumption, though it has had a history of very cheap fuel run through it. I've started filling up with Top Tier+ regular fuel at Costco for my wife and will likely be running Techron or Amsoil P.I. through it at least once per OCI.
I changed oil back at the end of February and had an extra sample container to catch used oil mid-drain, but no pre-paid mailer or packaging to send it to Blackstone. For some reason it took a few weeks to get one sent out to me, so I only recently was able to send the sample in and receive these results back.
This is the first oil change I've performed myself on my wife's 2013 Camry. It was previously changed every ~5k miles at Firestone Complete Auto Care. They supposedly put in 0w-20 Pennzoil Platinum. I'm not sure what brand of oil filter they used.
Firestone torqued the hell out of both the original drain plug and the oil filter canister. I was wanting to put in a magnetic drain plug anyway, so I took the opportunity to buy and install a new Votex neodymium drain plug and a matching Votex crush washer. I also bought a new OEM Toyota black plastic canister that I'm going to use at the next OCI (didn't arrive in time for this one, unfortunately). Thankfully Firestone didn't cross-thread either one or visibly damage the threads as far as I could see. Way too many ugga duggas though.
Now that I'm doing oil changes myself, I'm putting 0w-20 Valvoline Restore and Protect in it and plan to keep doing so for the life of the vehicle. I put in a PurolatorBOSS filter this time, and will probably switch over to OEM Toyota filters going forward. I plan to change and do used oil analysis every 5k miles from here on out.
Next up: I'll be doing a transmission drain and fill with full synthetic Idemitsu TLS-LV (WS compatible) as it's overdue. I'll be doing a used oil analysis on the drained ATF, and will also do a VOA + TAN on the new Idemitsu TLS-LV to share on the forums as I don't see it in the ATF library here.
