Is that correct that you're likely to use more oil if you're engine braking a lot? I have a V6 manual accord and it burns about 1/2 quart between changes maybe that would be why. I downshift a fair amount when decelerating but tend to rev match as best I can.Correct. This is now start of round 3 of Valvoline Restore and Protect.
My valvetrain area is spotless. My oil filter mount is clean and shiny. No clue on pistons, I haven't done a borescope....yet, not that I could see the rings anyway without disassembly and not planning for that.
PCV was changed at about 60k and again last year at I think 113k. It has had BG EPR, HPL Engine Cleaner 30, 1qt HPL PCEO 5w30 (used like EC30 multiple times). Oil has been Mobil 1 versions, Pennzoil Platinum versions, Delo XSP, Shell RGT, Valvoline Restore and Protect with viscosities of 0W-20, 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40. Pretty much the same usage from all of the above.
If it it doesn't change any after 4-5 rounds, maybe more, I'll do a borescope in cylinders just to see. I think it's my driving style as I'm 6MT and it sees a lot of daily engine braking as I leave in gear even to stop signs etc. That puts more vacuum to pull oil through. Car runs great, normal highway cruise with traffic at 70+ mph gets high 30's mpg which = almost 600 miles on a tank.
What's the oil change history since new?8500 mile oil change Zero consumption
Simple moved to a 30grade at about 40k and HPL at about 80k zero consumption with 30grade and never with HPL.What's the oil change history since new?
Any Subie with that many miles with no consumption gets my attention.
Which oils specifically were used in the past?Simple moved to a 30grade at about 40k and HPL at about 80k zero consumption with 30grade and never with HPL.
Didn't want to try the HPL ATF? Did you already have the AMSOIL? I've heard good things about the HPL. No doubt the AMSOIL will do great though.2021 GMC 1500 Sierra AT4 3.0 Duramax with 90,500 miles. Last OCI at 88k.

Short OCI as I couldn’t stand it any longer and had to get the HPL in there.
Also changed ATF, differentials and transfer case to Amsoil. My boutique conversion is complete!

You nailed it. Already purchased the Amsoil quite a while back from @Pablo but just got around to changing it. I like Pablo and I like the folks at HPL. Spreading the love around a bit I guess. lolDidn't want to try the HPL ATF? Did you already have the AMSOIL? I've heard good things about the HPL. No doubt the AMSOIL will do great though.
