My 2nd full ofValvoline Restore and Protectnow in this GDI 2.4L engine - I had just shy of 4,000 miles on the last OCI with 85% highway miles and the oil was black with soot . I’m now backing off the OCI to 3,800 miles / 6 months and will check again at the end of this OCI whether to reduce the OCI again .

Did you see any reduction in oil burning yet?

No , not yet - consumption began to increase as usual at the 1,500 - 2,000 mile mark . Inside the oil fill hole the metal is shiny and spotless I believe mostly from previous Mobil 1 oil used at conservative intervals along with the first fill of Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W30.

Nice... Would you be able to share what was your oil change interval in miles / months.

Nice choice. Valvoline Restore and Protect is a safe low cost option to clean out any engine including the oil control rings/piston rings.

The next time there is a rebate or sale on Valvoline Restore and Protect motor oil, I'm going to really stock up on it and buy as many 5 quart jugs as possible.

Also, their new Valvoline Restore and Protect Automatic Transmission Fluid seems really good.
I did some queries on AI, and Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF has the same high quality full synthetic base oil as Valvoline Maxlife ATF, with the same flash point of 201 degrees Celcius (394 Farenheit ) to withstand the high heat.

The main difference between Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF versus Valvoline Maxlife ATF is:
Valvoline Maxlife ATF has a high amount of concentrated seal treatment additives to stop leaks.
Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF has less seal treatment additives but it has the secret cleaning additive which the marketing states will clean up to 97% of the varnish in your transmission.

I recently stocked up on Idemitsu Type H Plus (for Hondas) and the TLS-LV ATF fluid (for Toyotas) @ 1.95 a quart at AAP.
The Idemitsu fluid is a full synthetic ATF fluid with better cold flow properties (lower pour point) and longer fluid longevity than
the Honda and Toyota OEM ATF semi-synthetic fluids. Once that new stash of Idemitsu ATF runs out, I'll probably start using the Valvoline ATF products again.

WOW. That is some dark oil after 2000 miles. Is this a GDI/turbo GDI engine?

I like that Motul X-Clean+ EFE 0W-30, especially if you have a GDI engine. Hard to beat VW 504 IMHO. ACEA C3 for all that soot too.
Yes it is a 3.5L Twin-turbo GDI motor VR35DDTT. Same.VR engine class as the Nissan GT-R.

Replaced: Oil Filter Extension Housing Gasket Mahle GS33532.

New, old car problems. Son’s first car. We picked it up for him last month. Noticed a small oil leak around the housing when we bought. I would’ve preferred to let the old oil go longer. But decide to replace the gasket now because it was leaking faster than I was comfortable with. Good to go now - no leak. Picked up an Supertech filter and used some NAPA oil I already had on hand.

Nice work.

Have you had it long enough to see if it's burning oil?

My friend's "new" Wisconsin VG4D industrial 4 cylinder 30 HP on a 9" brush chipper
Out: black stuff but nothing bad, NAPA 1106 filter
In: 4 qts Rotella Synthetic 5w40 + 2/3 qt Quaker State Hot Rod oil; NAPA 1106 filter

Filter was $40, ouch! I thought it was an oil bath air filter, but no. I have to do some research.
The drain bolt was a 9/16" square drive pipe thread and was pretty tight. Can anyone suggest a torque value? I used 25-30 lb-ft.

Out/off: Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 and CQP oil filter.
In/on: Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 and CQP oil filter.

The reason for the early oil change is that I’m trying to to get all of the break-in material out. I had a qt of Quaker State synthetic sitting around that I didn’t have any use for so I poured that through to help flush out more material. Figured it couldn’t hurt.

I plan on doing another oil change when I get around 1500 miles on the truck.
