My wife had a co-worker who drove 45 miles each way to work for many years. She drove an early 2000's Taurus with the 3.0, I asked her once the mileage on the car and it was a little over 350,000 miles. I'm not sure if that car is still around (it might be there isn't much rust in eastern WA). In my opinion a high point in Ford reliability.

My Mom drove a late nineties Tempo to those kind of miles. Had to have the transmission fixed a time or two during that run, though.

Much love for the Mobil 1 ESP line up of oils however this engine was fed dealer bulk oil up until approx. 70K miles and is having some moderate oil consumption now. Time to start its first fill of Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W30 to : “Show those oil rings who’s boss” !

These oil changes were all done in October.

My mother’s 21 Honda Pilot. Has ~41,000mi on it now.

Out: Honda 0w-20
Honda Oil Filter

In: HPL PCMO 5w-30
Carquest Premium 84356

Battery voltage was low, so I put it on a charger while I worked, cleaned up, and cut open the filter. Filter media is clean, but there is some gunk in the base of the filter can. Drained oil had some sparklies in it. It was also nearly 2qts low on coolant. Filled that up while I was at it. Right after I finish, she tells me she wants to trade it in soon. 🤦🏻‍♂️

2018 GMC Sierra, 91,641miles. This OCI will be at 4,345. Doing this tomorrow when it’ll be a little warmer out

Out - Valvoline Advanced 0w-20, ACDelco PF63 filter
In - Valvoline Advanced 0w-20, ACDelco PF63 filter

I was going to mix it up and go with the Valvoline Extended Protection but seeing as I still have a little more than 2qts of the Advanced left from the last oil change, I was able to get away with buying a 5qt and 1qt of the advanced this time. Next oil change I may go EP since they are so close in price. My truck probably wouldn’t know the difference between advanced and EP anyhow. ;)

Any idea what the debris is .... ferrous or nonferrous metal? With only 41K miles it shouldn't be shedding that kind of debris. Did you look down deep in the filter pleats for similar debris?

You're a Good Son! But if Mom had just told you before you put HPL in.... Ah well. maybe she'll drive it another whole OCI before the trade.

I’m gonna work on getting her to keep this one. She doesn’t have the money to trade anyhow. I also performed a transmission service on it! Forgot to add that part

Out: Honda 9-speed fluid. Was greenish and had a grayish hue/murk to it.

In: Amsoil Low Viscosity (Blue Cap) ATF.

She texted me this evening that it’s running and shifting smoother than it ever has.

I’m not sure. I assume you mean the sparklies in the pan corner. Those were non ferrous. Looked like mostly aluminum and a few copper. I agree, the shedding at this mileage concerns me. I’m hoping it was that 0w-20 and can be rectified by the switch to 5w-30.

I’ve still got the filter draining. The pleats are TIGHT together and from what little I could see, I didn’t see much of anything. Looked like the prettiest filter I’ve ever pulled off a vehicle that went the full factory interval.
