I'm 11k miles on Valvoline Restore and Protect now. Runs great. I'm going four intervals before switching back to Mobil 1 Extended Performance.
I had a 1988 FJ60 for a couple years, but my wife couldn't take the punishing ride. Later I bought an FJ40 project that she only rode in twice after I did a frame on restoration.60 series LC’s are cool. What made you bump to 15W?
Don’t feel too bad. My daughter doesn’t listen to me either. My daughter bought a 2007 Sebring with 135,000 miles on it, so naturally the first thing I do is change the oil.
Out: No clue what kind of oil or how many miles, but it was 2 quarts low and verrry black.
In: 5qt Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w-20, and a Fram TG filter.
Then I cut the old filter open and found way too many glittery bits mixed into lots of black sediment. I suggested my daughter wash & wax it, vacuum the interior, and stick a For Sale sign in the window. She laughed, and unfortunately seems determined to keep it.

Yea, I have a friend in a similar situation. She has a 14 mile round trip commute but doesn’t use her car in town. I’m going to suggest M1 for a slightly more robust oil at the next OCI.2021 Subaru Outback 2.5L 41.5k miles ODO. Current oil fill had 2,650 miles/ 5 months.
Out: Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-30, Wix 57055 filter.
In: Amsoil XL 5w30/ Amsoil EA15K13 filter.
Used Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 and few other 0W-20's for several oil changes for past 3 years for 2.8-3k oil/ 6 months OCI in Midwest weather. Oils always took a beating with fuel dilution and short 5 miles round trip commutes in cold weather with very little chances of full operating temps other than weekend grocery runs on the highway. Now it will see 15 mile round trip commutes going forward. I'm hopeful bumping up to 5w30 XL and improved operating temps due to longer commutes. I can finally try to go 6k/ 6 month intervals Subaru calls for or at least 5k mile OCI.
