Post your latest oil change

Is there some trick to getting all of the oil out with a fluid extractor? Do you move the draw tube in and out a bit once it starts pulling air?
Get the oil fairly hot; it makes a difference.
Use the dip stick to estimate how deep the extractor tube should go. When it starts to suck air, poke the tube around; you will see more oil flow.

The extractor tank should be graduated by quarts and litres. I will say some engines are better than others for top side extractions. It should work very well on your Earth Dreams 4 banger. Good luck.

That's what I do on the Ford F-100.
the 427 oil plug sits atop the front cross member, so I have to either make a helluva mess, or use the extractor.
One thing - the hand pump (on mine) sucks and I used a compressor to pull it out.
I KNOW I'm not getting 100%, but after moving/twisting the line around a while, I got most of it.
I only drive this thing ~1500 miles/year so I change it every year. Even with some oil left in, I don't fear the reaper doing that.
But warm oil IS much easier to pull.

Some cars are not a good candidate for extractors. On the other hand, our Lex GS350 6 cyl is made for it. As a test, I extracted the earl and then slightly lifted the car to put the drain plug in the optimal position. Maybe 1/2 cup drained; it only covered 1/3 of the drain pan. No lube place would go to this extreme.

I used to think the MityVac was only for big whussys. What does that make me? Don't answer that...

Hey, I'd NEVER have used one if I didn't have to.
But I do see the beauty of it after using it. The guy I bought the truck from gave it to me.
I may try another unit. It was a bit pissy, probably older model.
Hey, if you can't live and learn and change, you're not living!

Miss the 427 I had in my '77 Highboy, strong motor! Still have grandpa's '70 F100, love these trucks.

2016 Hyundai Accent SE, 1.6l, 240,124 miles, 3100 OCI.

Out: Mobil 1 0w-40, Super tech ST9688

In: Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w-40, Pennzoil PZ37 filter.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum flows way better (easier starts) below freezing. Mobil 1 used to be great back when it was PAO/Ester blend with a crazy -60°c pour point but the newer SP version is not so great in low temps. Even ignoring the harder start ups, the engine is pretty sluggish until it gets to operating temperature. Probably going to stick with PUP in the winter from now on.

Hyundai should award you a brand new Hyundai Accent Mr. Abuser. You have helped me decide our Hyunkia decision-makings in the past and all your suggestions have been good.

However, I bought extra Mobil-1 Euro 0w40 (three 12pks) when you switched to it and spouted about your move away from Mobil-1 15w50.. Now you've moved to Pennzoil and I want to do more copy-cat.
I've donated so much oil in recent past and now I'm thinking of donating my Mobil-1 and buying Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w-40.

Stop the switching NOW. Even the ones I'm donating oil to, don't need anymore backstock.....lol
Merry Christmas Abuser! You are my Hyunkia Hero and probably others here too.

2017 Corolla Dealership (probably one of the last there as their prices jumped to $105 for an oil change...) with TGMO and OEM filter. Previous oil was Kirkland and a Super Tech filter and had about 7200 miles on it.

2017 Forester didn't want to pay $105 so did in the driveway with Kirkland 0w-20 and a FRAM Extra Guard for about $19. Previous oil was Kirkland and a Fram Extra Guard and oil had about 6K miles on it.

Perfect car for the mitvac clone...easily pulls all of the oil out, and the filter is on top. No need to lift the car or crawl under.

Mityvac clone only sucked out 2.5 qts so I still had to crawl under and remove the skid plate.

While the oil was draining I made use of my time replacing all the engine under tray, clips and screws. Also replaced a plastic trim on the passenger door which a clip had broken on.
