Post your latest oil change

OCI on my daily Yaris. Out came Total Quartz 0w20 and a FUG. Oil was in for an odd interval with about 4k on it, filter has 10.6k on it. In went Toyota filter and ST HM 0w20.

may I know your reason for using 0w20? I believe 1nz-fe calls for 5w30. Just curious because I also have a 3door 2008 yaris and just sold my 2000 Taurus (also calls for 5w30) and now have a newer Forester that calls for 0w20. So maybe I can simplify oil purchase and I'm just gonna use 0w20 with the Yaris. The Yaris doesn't burn oil and I believe still in the break in period with only 170k kms on the odo. By the way,
where did your get that tanabe strut bars? Thanks.

2020 Audi Q2 Motul Specific 0w20 508/509 Bosch Filter just under 9k miles on the oil. Car has 27k, car has an 18k mile or two year interval.

But got an oil and filter at 1000miles, 9k miles and now 27k miles in addition to the 18k mile service at Audi.

2017 Smart For Four Shell 0w30 RN070 Spec Mann Filter. Just over 14k miles on the oil, didn’t require any top up and to be honest the oil didn’t look as bad as expected.

Manufacturer Service Interval is Annually or 12.5k and it’s normally done annually at closer to 8/9k.

2020 745Le 0w30 BMW oil LL04 64k, 19k miles on the oil. Filter is whatever BMW OE filter is.

Service Interval is 20k miles.

Second service this year as doing just shy of 50k miles a year

Could be placebo effect but after oil change the engine just purrs happily and is really quiet. :)
Can I ask what was the reasoning for the 5w50?

Is it tuned?

I have always had great results with Mobil 1 0w40 but haven’t had a car that I could use it in for a while.

Car is bone stock.

I think it was 5W50 because the mechanic was an elderly old school gentleman who most likely used to put this Rally Formula in each and every engine despite of their actual requirements. :)

This Mobil 1 RF 5W50 used to be the go to oil for every diesel Mercedes with half a million on the clock or so.

Now we have Mobil 1 0W40 in her Punto and my XR3i and Mustang. (y)

Ive been using 0w20 since 1500miles when I drained out the factory fill. I use it for better gas mileage. I tried 5w30 once about a year ago and had noticed reduction in overall fuel economy. Went back to 0w20 and it came right back. So I just stick with it. I even occasionally track and autoX it. Car has just under 191k on it currently.

My other 1nz car I use 5w30.

I tried using thinner oil in my daughters Kia Picanto years ago

Can’t remember if it was 5w20 or 0w20, but it was the Kia spec oil for that engine.

The Kia dealers all used 5w30

The only thing I noticed was it was the camchain was a little bit noisier on idle, and I do mean a tiny bit.

Can’t say I noticed any difference in how the car drove or in economy.

My 745Le is specced for several different oils, including 0w20.

But BMW Dealers seem to use 0w30 branded oil.

You can also use 5w40 meeting LL04

I think I will be trying that at my next interim oil change.

Economy is not my priority, engine longevity is.

Lets see, yesterday 11/14/23, 2005 Tahoe @ 316,563.

3,802.9 miles on oil change. 52% oil life on dash. No noticeable consumption throughout the interval.

Comes out clean. This will be the winter OCI, with maybe one in February depending upon driving.

I collect very little in my catch can. I think the updated drive-side LS valve cover with revised PCV baffle makes a big difference.

I also picked up this big-ole funnel at the Tractor Supply. I like it, nice and big.

Did a few cars over the weekend since it's supposed to be getting cold here soon and everyone's going to be busy with the holidays.

Car has had the same oil and filters since new. I think i have oil for 2 more changes. This is the fourth oil change. The car is short tripped 80% of the time and our winters are brutal so changes are roughly every 6 months.

Votex magnetic drain plug had very little on it.

Well. its getting "chilly" here in the NE.. I felt the M1 Euro 5W30 was too "thick" for these 20 ish degree mornings.

I have always ran a full syn/hm/euro 5W30 in the kias 2.4L, and have no memory of ever using 5W20 that is "recommended" let alone a 0w20..

The results are not near as negative as I expected. The engine did not immediately blow up... It also did not start leaking at every seal, or blowing smoke.. The 2.4L almost feels more "snappy" like the 0w20 has less resistance.. No new sounds, ticks, knocks or what ever sounds the H/K 2.4L make lol.

I change the oil about every 6 weeks (4,500 miles or so) )and the 23.58$ per 5 qt jug is alot easier accept than the near $40 for the Euro grade. I have not used Pennzoil is over a decade!, but the initial results are very positive, and the price is refreshing...

Got a cut in the inner boot of a CV axle I just put on back in April.
Replaced the CV axle, then did the oil change.
Also discovered where some noise is coming from--passenger rear wheel bearing sounds to be going out.
Catch can is still catching a good bit of oil still.

Replaced the CV axle, and replaced the passenger rear wheel bearing back in the spring. Unhooked the catch can and installed the new, much larger PCV that mates to a 5/8" hose back at the end of October under mt23's advise. Not sure yet if it is helping or not. I can tell that there is a noticeable amount of oil loss through cam carrier seal leakage, and will have to do that repair at some point. It is leaking on both passenger and driver's side. The appreciation is waning.
