Post your latest oil change

You have to take a tire off to change oil???
Honda 3.5 V6s have the filter tucked away in a hard to reach place, even when the vehicles on a lift. Taking the tire off makes it easier to remove and install. Just like 97-08 3800 equipped Pontiac Grand Prixs for example.
I usually leave the wheel on and turn sharp right to access the filter, but it is easier with the wheel off. Also, the caliper was looking a little rough so I had to hit it with some silver paint!

I've done that too, but finally decided just to plan on removing the wheel when I service those particular engines in those particular cars. Gives you some extra room to deal with a stubborn filter if you need it. On the GMs like that, taking the wheel off gives me an opportunity to inspect the oil pressure sensor, which are prone to leak.

I cheated again this morning. 66 years old and don't change my own oil anymore. 2018 Subaru Forester with 62,000 miles total. About 5800 miles on the oil. Took it to my local shop that I know and trust. Did a Blackstone sample last change with 8076 miles on the oil. Came back good and said go 10,000 miles on the next change. I did not press that, cold in Iowa and have been letting it idle and warm up in the mornings, so I cut it back.

Cost me a whopping $28.92 while I sat in the chair and read a magazine for 25 minutes. (I supplied a Subaru oil filter, crush washer and Castrol Edge 10W-20 oil) Shop owner knows me well and does not care if I supply the goodies. Spent lot's of $ at his shop before, so he knows I never whine or complain about bills. Had an old Impala that I probably spend $5000.00 there over the years.

I just pay the bill, then flip out a $20.00 bill and say, buy donuts for yourself and the two other guys tomorrow AM. He appreciates that, as well as I do his service. If I call for an oil change, he just asks what day and time? Always works me into his schedule. Great guy!

2016 Hyundai Accent SE. 181,400 miles, ~2600 OCI. Oil change was a bit early but I sure as heck ain't crawling on the ground in 3ft of snow Monday.

Out: M1 FS 0w-40, Fram Ultra 9688, MOA.

Dumped in a can of Liqui-moly flush and ran for 10 minutes before draining. Oil is staying cleaner much longer now rather than going completely black in 1k so flush has helped, also got rid of what I think was a lazy timing chain tensioner noise on cold starts.

In: Pennzoil Platinum Euro 0w-40, MANN w811/80, bottle of Lubegard.

Also replaced the broken strut with an OEM Mando and the blower motor (also Mando) cause it was getting obnoxiously squeaky.

Glad to hear that one hand washes the other still holds truth today in some places with certain people. Little things in life.... ;)

2021 Toyota Venza in signature
1/30/2022
Out: OEM factory fill and Filter at 2706 miles.
In: 4.5 Qt. Castrol Edge 0W-16 - Toyota 90915-yzzn1 filter + Genuine Toyota Crush Washer.

Dumping the Factory Fill. Oil was dark not black at 2706 miles. Did not see any sparkles with a casual glance. Nice that the factory filter was the same as the OEM replacement. Unlike other recent vehicles. Very easy vehicle to change oil on, less than an hour for the first change ain't bad at age 67. I have one Wix UOA kit. Might test this oil if the dealer will give me a sample at the free 10K oil change.

Discovered a rather fresh oil leak from the top of the engine which will be the very first issue we’ve had with the car so with 134k miles I’d say that’s not to bad, gona be putting some money away to have a shop investigate and fix the source of the leak in the near future
