Post your latest oil change

Is that a 100% topside change? Just curious where BMW has gone. I have been out of the BMW game for a long and and My e30 m3 is a very standard change.

Best!

Kevin
Hey Kevin, It’s a bottom mount cartridge filter, 9.5 quarts. Takes a bit longer to drain to empty the oil cooler, but a pretty straightforward process once you get the beast up in the air. I bet that e30 M3 is fun!

2018 Toyota Tacoma 39800 miles.
out went the 5w30 RGT and a K&N filter. Oil had 5800 miles on it the filter a little over 10k And looked great. I could probably get 2x the mileage on these filters when the power train warranty is over.
Truck has been getting amazing mileage with the summer heat. I have been real happy with the RGT In the Tacoma and in the 4 runner.

In went the last of my RGT stash which included 5 quarts of 5w30 and a quart of 0w20 (no real purpose it’s just what I had left in the RGT from the clearance sales.) I may Had a third of a quart of 0w40 m1 to touch the fill line but It is not ultra critical. I used a WIX filter this time because I didn’t feel like going into Walmart For the K&N and ordered on amazon prime.

Next task when I have time is replacing the engine air filter and getting a filter Minder And the cabin air filter. I have not removed the engine air filter To inspect But it Has a little over 30k on it.
It is also getting close to new tire time. The OEM Goodyear Kevlars May have another 3-5 k on them. The wear bars are getting close so I will replace before the wet season.

Grandson did his first oil change today. I pretty much sat by and told him what to do he did the whole change

Only one hang up some genius torqued the drain plug in at 100 lbs. would be my guess. We replaced it correctly at two fingers tight on the closed box wrench. My Grandson hit the nail on the head what kind of idiot did that?

So that's how I spent part of my Grandsons16th Birthday weekend.

Good on you for teaching your grandson how to do it right. It seems most men these days have no clue how to do something as simple as changing their oil, and it's pathetic.

Thank you for passing the knowledge on, even little things like this.

I was under the impression that the SBC used a cartridge filter through 1967. Has the 63 vette 327 been converted to a spin on? I know I have changed a 283 over to spin on with a Mr. Gasket kit in the past.

Mine was converted by a previous owner. I say minus five points for originality but plus ten for convenience.

It's a fairly simple adapter on there, I could swap it back to factory if I should need to for some reason.

Oh yes, I would definitely prefer the spin on myself. It's like you said, if originality were to become an issue, not a hassle to but the cartridge back on it....but what a pita to deal with regular changes and that type of filter. Are all these vintage cars you're servicing yours?

About half of them. This collection is between a friend and I, there are about 25 cars owned by a trust we set up. Most of them are good drivers, a coupe are show-quality originals but those don’t really get brought out much.

I have a few antiques that are mine alone but those aren’t any of the ones I posted here recently.

The switch to KS was done knowing that this van has seen nothing but FS oil with a filter per OCI ever since it got off its factory fill.

This was not the only thing done this time around, since the family van was in for annual maintainence which included:

1: Transmission drain and fill with vavoline maxlife atf and a nice dosage of lubegard hfm (61910) to add in extra additives to soften harsh shifting due to different transmission design.

2: Non directional tire rotation.

3: Brake flush using prestone dot 4.

Took about half a day to complete.
