1st oil change on my 2016 157" wb 2wd F150 Lariat with the 2.7 EcoBoost. Purchased new late January 2017. Mileage was 4950 and the meter was showing 53% oil life remaining. No oil was added during the 4950 miles and the oil level was right where it was the day I picked it up. I used 6 quarts of Motorcraft 5w-30 Synthetic Blend and a Motorcraft filter in the change. I've read where other F150 EcoBoost owners have found that their used oil smelled of gasoline. Mine smelled just like every other container of used oil I've ever been around.
No doubt this was the most unusual oil change I've ever done, with the filter in a canister up at the top of the engine and a plastic drain plug (going into a plastic oil pan) designed to be taken off by hand. Ford recommends waiting 15 minutes after shutting the engine off before even checking the oil level. I've found that waiting 30 minutes gets a more accurate reading. With that in mind I let the oil drain an hour before I buttoned things back up and refilled the crankcase. I ran the engine for a few minutes after the change and then let the engine sit off for 30 minutes before I checked the level. The recommended 6 qts put the level on the stick even with the top of the crosshatch on the stick.
I suspect that oil change facilities of every kind are hating this engine....if they, in fact, follow the recommended procedure. I've read reports that early on even Ford dealerships were screwing up and sending oil change customers out the door with overfilled crankcases due to not allowing enough drain time. In my mind, done correctly, a change on the 2.7 takes about an hour, give or take a few minutes.
