Ok, it would help if I actually READ what I put in my notes/maintenance. Must have been tired like always. It was HALF quarts added not full. Total top offs for this OCI that I just did today was 1.75 quarts in 5500 miles. Still not great but much better 3 in 4300.So my son just came home for the weekend with my Accord and I'm doing my normal pre-trip check/fill things before he goes back.
I'm at just over 4300 miles on this OCI with just over 120k on vehicle. I just added 1/4qt to top it to full line, he added 1/2 a short time ago.
That puts me at 3qts of "top off" over the 4300 miles. Maybe that's some of the Volatility that @JAG tested with the DELO 5W-40? Maybe it's the longer highway drives to Virginia and back? Maybe it's just my Accord? PCV was done very recently but it's always used some oil since I got it. Either way we'll keep it topped off as normal and I'll change it next time the car is back. This was the first run on the Delo if that has any impact like others experience when switching.
Contrary to the Accord, my daughters CRV on same original ratio of 1qt HPL and 3.5qt Delo 5w-40 has used nothing over the 3000 miles so far.
Went in today.Sounds like a candidate for some Valvoline Restore and Protect. Piston rings might be stuck.
Any burning concerns that more Valvoline Restore and Protect might have helped clean? How many Valvoline Restore and Protect rounds did you do?2001 Chevy Blazer 4x4, with 4.3 Vortec V6
Out: Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30/ Fram Ultra Synthetic XG3980, about 2k miles of service.
In: Mobil 1 ESP 0w-30/ Fram Ultra Synthetic XG3980, will run it for 4k- 5k miles.
Chose ESP and will stick to it because it’s only $27, and it’s supposedly one of the best, and my truck only takes 4.5 quarts, so less than $40 for an oil change. **** good deal I must say
