Post Your Latest (Motorcycle) Oil Change!

2022 Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE,
At 1000km (after recommended break in), 3.8l of Mobil 1 4t 10w40 an tough guard Fram filter.
If you wish to verify break in take a compression test... if the engine shows factory compression then ring
seating is done... if you don't see factory compression then I advise more high revs to complete break in...

For the first 350km I only rev the engine to max 4000rpm but with a lot of wide open throttle and deceleration. I suspect the rings were already seated by that time. Then I drove it at 6000rpm at high speed few times until 600km, again with many wide open throttle and deceleration. From 600 to 1000km (600mi) I did full rev few times here and there. I won’t check compression, I’m too busy riding…

2009 Yamaha V Star 650 Classic

Out Mobil 1 20w50 v twin

In went 2 quarts VR1 20w50 conventional and 1 quart VR1 SAE 50 conventional. I somehow didn’t realize I grabbed the straight 50 until I was about to pour it in. It must have been on the shelf with the 20w50 and I just didn’t look close enough. No worries it’ll probably be a better oil anyway. My bike has a shared sump so the engine oil is the transmission fluid too.

I had planned to get more Mobil 1 but saw the price is up to $10.50 a quart at Walmart. Not a huge increase but I was like $30+ for 3 quarts of oil? Nah. VR1 is good stuff.

I would usually do 2000-2500 miles between changes. Might be overkill but I figured the oil pulls double duty in my bike. Plus for a cruiser it runs a higher rpm being a 650. This change I just did was not much mileage but I changed because it had been like 2 years since the last. I just haven’t had the time to ride the last couple summers. Used to ride 4-5000 plus miles a summer. Geeze last summer I did like 550 miles. Only 100 so far this year.

Honda GL1800
out: Shell Advance Ultra 10W40 + Honda filter
in: Shell Advance Ultra 10W40 + Honda filter

This was a second short interval change after getting the bike. From now on oil change every 5000 km - easy to remember as next is @80000 km.

2016 Yamaha WR450F, approx 160 hours run time
Oil capacity 0.7 quart
11.5 hours / 248 miles on this service interval
Drained: Motorex Power Synt 10w50 4T
Added: Yamalube 10w40 full syn, Rotella T4 15w40 (50/50 mix)
Put a few extra hours on this service interval, oil was dark but not black, still extremely smooth and slippery with good flow... probably could have gone longer but this 450F has a tiny oil capacity so I change it a little more often.

2002 Honda 400ex a friend bought
Out: black nasty goo, K&N filter
In: 2qts Valvoline Motorcycle 10w40, Honda OEM filter, re-threaded oil filter cover bolt holes since PO used self tappers 🤦‍♂️

2001 Yamaha Blaster 200 (trans oil change)
Out: Oil that definitely had water in it
In: 650ml Rotella 15w40

Probably going to run the Blaster a bit then change the oil again to make sure all the water and goo is out of it.

2012 Honda NC700X

Fork oil change
Out: OEM (bike has In: Valvoline Maxlife Full Synthetic Multi-Vehicle ATF (KV40: 28.82cst, VI: 156)

Previously swapped out the rear links for a 2" rise in the rear. The forks were diving more than I cared for, so I swapped the spacer tube (5.875" steel tube) for a 6.25" PVC tube (0.375" extension) to add preload. Swapped fork oil for something with less dampening than the SS-47. Took it for a ride, and all is good!
Above was the first time I had done an oil change (and coolant change) on the bike, using Rotella T5.

2012 Honda NC700X
ODO: 11,895
OCI mi: 11,895 - 7,895 (spitballing) = 4,000
OCI hr: 4,000 / 35 = 114
Out: Rotella T5 15w-40 CK-4
Off: PL14610

In: 2qts M1 15w-50 + 2qt pre-blended stock (30% napa sae 40 SP, 30% napa 20w-50 SP, 30% QS Euro 5w-40, 10% ASTO-500)
On: Supertech MP7317

Oil came out looking quite red... kinda odd, and I didn't know what to make of it. This change interval was quite long, time-wise. I had considered changing it multiple times, but dipped color and darkness helped me feel confident it could live up to the miles.

Kymco in my signature:

Out: 0.85 quarts of Rotella T4

In: 0.85 quarts of Amsoil 10w40 Premium protection

Just an oil screen which I cleaned out. No noticeable debris or anything in the screen. Slight amount of material on the magnetic drain plug. I plan on changing the Amsoil every 500 miles due to having no oil filter.
