post your latest differential fluid change

04 Chevy Silverado in sig

Miles: 178k and some change
Out: unknown brand / miles
In: 2qts supertech 75w90 syn blend and top off with old open bottle leftover Mobil 1 75w90 my dad had sitting in his garage.

2015 Silverado 2500HD. Out with factory fill at 2400 miles and in with Amsoil 75w90 Severe Gear. As was usual for any GM pickup I have had, the rear diff was over 2 pints low from the factory, the front diff was just below minimum level. The front diff and the transfer case, the magnetic plugs were already growing "hair" from the break in wear metals.

1999 Silverado 2WD rear diff with 80K miles

Out: Who knows (likely the factory fill from 1999). The oil was very dirty, low and the pumpkin magnet had no real estate to take on any additional metals. It was way over due.

In: Pennzoil 75W90 and freshly made RTV gasket.

2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon

Drained out the OEM 80W-90 in the rear differential and replaced it with M1 75W-140. It is a requirement to go to a 75W-140 when towing. Only 2561 miles on the OEM fluid.

While I was at it I changed the front differential over to Amsoil SVG 75-90.

2008 BMW 528i - 195k

Out: Factory Fill

In: Amsoil Severe Gear 75w90 and a new drain/fill plug.

i sucked out the old fluid since the unit did not have a drain plug. I was able to add just over 1 part of new fluid.

2006 Mazda MX-5 w/ 107xxx miles

Out: factory fill?
In: Super Tech 75W-90 (it was the only brand WM carried)

Might do a few drain and fills and put something full syn in.

plan to replace open diff with Spartan locker.
Not sure if I should use 75W90 or 80W140.
Truck is AWD and never used for towing. leaning toward 75W90 ST like the front.

Installed locker and new diff fluid today. Cleaned magnet (metal grains and shavings present). Installed Spartan locker. Permatex black on diff cover.

Out: 2Q Mobil 1 75w140 + 1/2Q metal shavings and black goo.

Pre 2002 3rd gen 4Runner differentials seems to recommend thicker oil at mineral 80W90/ 90.

But post 2003 4th gen 4Runner switch to thinner 75W85 ....... does it cause hum/whining noise in rear diff after 8 or 10 year usage ?

Just curious ...
